To all the people claiming this is horrible advice aren't understanding one of the common reason *some* people remain single for so long: they nearly allow the chase to become their whole identity and let their self-worth go into the gutter as a result of not being able to find anyone.

​The advice wasn't "just be yourself" it was to focus on investing in your own self-worth and self-growth, which is the very thing that 1) further broadens your identity which is bound to make you a more interesting person, and 2) helps you know yourself more deeply which will only help you resonate with someone that's a better fit for you rather than just anybody.

Like someone else here said, once someone of interest comes along you obviously then have to put in some work. Obviously you have to go do things well enough to be seen, inside and out. No one's saying to sit in the house or just slowly roam the grocery store. The point is to actively invest in bettering yourself *instead of* constantly worrying and letting the chase become your whole identity. Of course she gave the short version of the answer because it's easier to give the headline, but anyone with a decent amount of life experience knows exactly what she means.
