What up guys! Sometimes even though something may not necessarily be wrong, you've just got to try something new! Let me know what you think! To keep the Dinan tune, or not the keep the Dinan tune? Thanks for watching!

5:57 My dog was sitting here, heard the startup chimes - got excited & popped up his head and looked towards the garage. He's so bummed now that he realized he's not going for a ride in my '98 M3 'vert. lol.

Dinan tune used to mean a new ECU. Back in the day, I lived in Bay Area and drove my car to Dinan shop to have the swap done on site while I waited. Regarding black tail pipes, before changing tunes - you might want to check 1) are your O2 sensors or cats failing? and 2) are you using the right spark plugs?

Rk-tunes for sure! I've spoken with them about getting a tune for my e36 m3, and a friends e46 m3, and they really know their stuff. He also does unlimited re-tunes, so if you get more mods, he will revise the tune for you at no charge.

Good job going into detail, especially about the grounds . I replaced the valve cover gasket on my 99 M3 about 500 miles and it required me to take out all the coil packs

I've been running a Conforti Chip (OBD1 version of Shark Injector) for the last 17 years on my '93 325i and it's been solid.

Just a little input as I’ve had the chance to compare two similar cars with dinan vs RK tunes. I run a Dinan Stage 5 tune which goes along with the m50 manifold conversion, CAI, 3.5 inch MAF, and dinan throttle body. I’ve also deleted the ASC with a mishimoto 3.5 inch intake hose. I’m running a supersprint long tube header with stock muffler and cats. The only e36 m3 I’ve found at a similar power level was a customer car from the shop I work at. He has the same intake mods less the throttle body and ASC delete but is running shrick cams, and instead of headers he has a dinan muffler for exhaust. He had his car tuned by RK tunes. Driving the two I cannot give the edge either way. My head says mine is faster but I have not raced the two and I’m likely a bit biased. I suspect the cams in his car are being wasted by not having the increased throttle body to feed it and the improved flow of a long tube header to evacuate. If you are going to go with the cams route RK will suit you better as they can custom tune for it. But from my experience similar power can be had by going the Dinan route. I have also had zero tuning issues. His car has had to come in and out of the shop several times for logging due to bad cold starts, and bad idles. Could be the cams but with a proper tune it shouldn’t have to be a problem. Let me know if you needed any more insight but I figured I’d share 👍🏽

Great video as always Gavin!
Also nice explanation and tutorial on how to change sparkplugs, only thing I'd switch up is the order - would go with explanation first but video is awesome whatsoever.

Regarding the tune, RKTunes is one of the top-performing. There are some guys that do it even further but hella expensive that I can tell you.
Btw instead of tweaking up the software I'd definitely go with m50b25 intake manifold first. Search the internet, you'll find the benefits - and no, there are no drawbacks. Also just think about it, it just has larger ports, nothing else.
Also I think in one video you did go with whole exaust thing going on but in case I mixed something up, that money (at the moment while M3 isn't fully modded) would better go on 3-inches exaust without catalyst - then aftermarked CAI and after that maybe revise the chip tuning.

To cut things short, I don't think you have to do anything with the chip right now since car isn't performance modded yet. Climate change isn't affecting it much as you think - after all you have one of the best engines in the world, straight six.

Cheers from Europe!

Hey you need the m50 swap with the tune that will help a lot. Your car is pulling a little in the slow side, good luck

Dinan makes quality stuff esp when the car’s new bc it retains factory warranty but in terms of tunes they are very conservative. I go RK Tunes.

I have Dinan stage 5 tune and would like to get a custom tune done at some point. Its been good but I know there's more power to be had like you said from custom.

I would not go with most of these other tuners for several reasons.
Watch the DINANTRONICS video it explains a lot. I personally use
Dinan S1 performance tune. On my S63TU F90 M5. Dinan and BMW Engineers work very closely together as they realize the car enthusiast what more performance and that fine. BMW tunes them a specific way the best gas mileage good performance and a classic look but leave room for enthuses Dinan
Steps in and says we can make it better and they do Example : stock, the car has 300hp but if we max it out we get 400hp but that’s really stressing the car so Dinan says we’ll bring it to 375 that way we’re not over stressing the car and BMW got there data and BMW’s engineers gave there thumbs up and thus retaining ALL EVERY THING UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY 4 yrs /50k mi what they do is intergrated with all the ECU’s were others only do a few area of the ECU and depend on other factory parts to take up the slack the other tuners do not do but Dinan does.
Like for example BM3 tune yes it boost your turbos but that we’re they leave it more boost psi things happen and they don’t account for them Dinan does account for all thing.
The DINANTRONICS video on Dinan’s web site explained it best after watching the video you will stay with Dinan.
I used Dinan on my 2 - M3 and now 3 - M5
Even Dinan gives the same warranty as BMW .
My F90 M5 with Dinan S1 still has original factory warranty.
Any other tuner your warranty is voided

My favorite sound when I step into my garage every morning when preparing to leave for work. Only e36 guys understand the e36 key fob audio.

Have you thought about adding an A/Fuel gauge so you can monitor EXACTLY what goes on with the mixture?
I put an Innovate G5 to my system and shoved it on the dash next to the A pillar and it has helps a LOT in figuring out what is goin on in my Frankenstein E36.

If you got just a standard "Upgrade" chip for the DME, then it just puffs up the fuel table a tad sat higher RPM and raises the rev limit to 7200 ( or something) and maybe adds 1 degrees of timing, so that may be why your are getting sooty pipes, but your plugs look ok. Its just a general bump for all cars on pump gas... but it won't "unleash the monster under the hood". Only a custom Dyno tune will do that and that's a lot more $$ than I have to spend!
I had to go with a Miller W.A.R. chip to custom tune mine because it is OBD1 Non-Vanos with a LOT of mods, and they are the ONLY people crazy enough to try and tune an OBD1... and it did great!, got it custom tuned and managed goodHP to the wheels, but it just did not stand the test of time. It failed after a couple of months, so don't go there.
Your OBD2 has a lot more options for tuning, but I would go with RK.
Dinan seems to be off the shelf, as you said and not custom tuned, altho they can do that, but you need some time on a Dyno and a fully tunable chip to really get the most out of these engines...
RK seems to be THEE go-to guys for full custom setups, so I'd at least START there...
I'd stay clear of Shark cause its sort of a hack-into setup and may not be robust.

Your OBD2 has a lot more options for tuning, but I would go with RK.

Go rk tuned, my e36 m3 has it and I've had no problems. Super easy to install!

I think you should get a first gen front fascia in order to fit 1st gen kidneys, I think they flow so much better with the square ish lines of the e36. The 2nd gen are way too curvy compared to the rest of the car.

You should've put the double electro spark plugs. Like the ones you took off

At 8:40 your Coolant gauge looks like its not fully up to temp, it should be dead in the middle like it was at 8.15 This may be indicative of a stuck open thermostat or a lower temp thermostat that does not allow the car to maintain operating temperature of around 180-190f, this will cause the ecu to run the engine automatically richer until it reaches the temp that its programmed to run at. Look into that.

You should go with rktunes. I would love to see the difference with their software. I have an e36 m3 with a dinan stage 1 chip that the PO put in. My car has 153k on it and I noticed that each time I change the plugs they usually always have carbon deposits on it. Makes me think she runs a little rich
