I keep realizing this concept more deeply each day. It’s our reactions to our environment that dictate our emotional/mental state. ‘Things’ can be people, places or situations. Walk away whenever possible if it’s not peaceful. Or look away if the sight is unpleasant. Definitely don’t engage in contentious communications.
I’ve also learned the value of, ‘restraint of pen, tongue and send button’. Many people regret saying something and not that many regret saying nothing. Maya Angelou said, ‘people will usually forget what you say, but they’ll never forget how you made them feel’.

I grew up in a very reactive household. It is hard for me to remain calm in a difficult situation because thats not how we do things at home. Its a learning process :)

Great video thanks. "Acting" as if nothing bothers you seems fake. Why not "genuinely" not let things bother you instead? Then there is less need to "act". A useful approach is to become aware that we are not our thoughts. The moment we do this it creates the "space" we need to choose and decide whether or not to "swipe left" on the movie trailer(our thoughts), or change the channel on any thought that enters our awareness. Once we "unlearn" all the supposed societal truths and empty our ego's we no longer "label" or fight any thoughts but instead let them arise, accept them, and then let them go.

P.S. I do agree smiling alone does help make us happy even though this seems fake. Good luck to all.
