Dahlias, new planting for winter and an announcement

Winter weather has been forecast and I only have 2 days to get the garden ready. There are dahlia tubers to save, and even some new plants to add to the garden to make sure it isn't bare and depressing over winter.

Great lessons here. Do what needs to be done when you can do it. It is painful to cut down beautiful plants, but it may be necessary. Nice demonstration of winter prep for your Dahlias.

❤ Winter’s first snow is falling right now and I’m glad I put the gardens plus planters to bed weeks ago. I actually pulled another 10 lbs of carrots this week with more still in one raised bed. Please post even a short when the yard looks particularly beautiful or if you harvest anything. 😊

Hi Eli & Kate, thats a great tip on how to care for Dahlias in winter months. I've grown from seed, never grown dahlias before and they were all lovely. So, im going to cut them back & mulch and see if they survive. Lovely planted flowers 💐 lovely video too. Its really cold here too. Enjoy your well earned break. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

I love primrose & polyanthas and violets together but always think of them as spring plants so was surprised to hear they are winter ones. As children my sister and I used to go picking them and sell to neighbours in bunches. We lived in a council house so none of us were wealthy but we always sold them. I look back and think how generous our neighbours were because they could be collected along the railway embankment and down the local lanes. Thanks for triggering a lovely memory from 70 years ago.
