Killer Instinct Gold - Nintendo 64 Review - HD

Killer Instinct Gold is a 1996 fighting video game based on the arcade game Killer Instinct 2. The game was developed by Rare and released by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 video game console. As in other series entries, players control characters who fight on a 2D plane set against a 3D background. Players press buttons to punch and kick their opponent in chains of successive hits, known as combos. Large combo successions lead to stronger attacks and brutal, stylistic finisher moves underscored by an announcer. Characters—including a gargoyle, a ninja, and a femme fatale—fight in settings such as a jungle and a spaceship. Killer Instinct Gold includes the arcade release's characters, combos, and 3D, pre-rendered environments, but excludes its full-motion video sequences and some voiceovers due to restrictions of the cartridge media format. The Gold release adds a training mode, new camera views, and improved audiovisuals.

Killer Instinct Gold review on the nintendo 64. Recorded using a dazzle and on original real console hardware and game cartridge.

I'm 42 years old back in the day I bought a Nintendo 64 and got a copy of Killer Instinct gold at first the game kick my ass I had no chance but I practiced and I don't mean to brag but I became a beast at Killer Instinct gold expecially with Maya and Fulgore once I learned all the fighting mechanics in the game the game is just so fucking awesome and it quickly became my number one favorite fighting game of all time.

D pad IS for 2D fighters.
Analogue is for gradual increase of directional input.

This was actually the first game I ever played and obviously the N64 was the first console I had. I still play the game now! Awesome review.l

The thing about Killer Instinct is that every character has a completely different look from one another, unlike Mortal Kombat who has a lot of similarity between their characters.

I remember wanting to play this game for years. I knew of it for a long time. I finally got to play it through Rare Replay. I was very happy finally enjoying it. Not long following that, I actually won Killer Instinct Definitive Edition that also came with the first two Killer Instinct games. My winning answer was a reference to Fulgore.

I remember buying this game for Christmas in 96 when I was starving for new Nintendo 64 games. Such great memories playing against my sisters and friends back in the day. I play it once in awhile whenever I have the chance. I used to play it on a 27 inch Sony Trinitron and when the voice says "Killer Instinct" on the menu, it was loud as hell; still impresses me to this day. On a different note, playing Nintendo 64 on a plasma TV is the way to go these days in my opinion. I play the system with an S-Video cable. I got the cable originally for the Gamecube but decided to use it for playing Nintendo 64 since both shared the same AV connection. I have an LG Plasma TV from 2007 and when you play games supporting the expansion pack, it looks very impressive. Seeing the fire in the background on the Killer Instinct Gold menu almost looks hi rez when using the S-Video cable.

Let's just take a moment to appreciate how it had a black street boxer named TJ Combo. Which has to be the blackest character in media history.

I remember this game and the original killer instinct being advertise for the "ultra 64" .
The combos and characters scream a good time. I was sadden to see the little movies in the arcade and other details taken out. The n64 was hyped as the video game console that could do it all!

Got a 32 hit combo as Jago against my brother as Glacius. Blew my mind.

Hi,
This Game is the best one out of all Killer Instinct games with the best soundtrack for N64 in my eyes.

Question: How many Nintendo 64 games do you own?

Kind regards
Andre ;-)
