I always wondered if the reason why we love storytelling is because it's a way for people to obtain virtual experience through someone else's point of view. Early humans may have naturally found value in storytelling because it allows them to learn others survival mistakes and successes. This saves them time because they don't need to go through the same mistakes and they can concentrate on simulating the successes. For example, an early man who has survived a lion attack in the wild may share his story through a narrative. The people who listened to him would've learned valuable information that could help them survive a lion attack.

Everything you do, expands your abilities, develops your brain.
The question is to choose wisely.

I think reading is more effective than watching tv because you kind of create the scenario in your head. You imagine the sound, you imagine the pov, and you create the experience.

I believe this. I read at least 2-3 books a week. The things about strong writers are that they make you feel the character's joy, pain, sadness, etc. It's not just in your mind, you feel it all over. I was excited to see Mr. North in this, because I had just found his channel In The Making yesterday and thoroughly enjoy it!

I really did enjoy the explanations from Dr. Mike, and the following reiteration by Trace. If possible, could we have more of this please?

The same goes for certain video games.
I have never shot a gun in my life, up to a few months back. I played a lot of Battlefield, so once I picked up the gun, I knew exactly what to do, how to aim and expect the recoil. I got 9/10 close body shots (wasn't required to go for the headshots).
Won myself a bet by beating my colleague and applied to become a member of the shooting club.

When I was younger I was really dumb. Like I was put into special classes to help me read and I hated it, I didn't understand a thing. Then one day I was forced to pick out a book in the school library and my life was changed forever. I chose the first Harry Potter book and then continued with the rest of the series when I was in the 3rd grade. I finished them in the fourth grade and since then have done a lot better in all aspects of school and have a strong love of reading. I did so good that in all my years of middle school I had gained awards as the top student for my grade. I used to read one or two books a week about almost anything. Reading has changed my life and it could change yours.

Personally I love reading, and as I was reading comments I can't believe how many people dislike it! Reading a good paperback is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon alone, to relieve yourself of boredom... Sigh some people will never know

I just started reading more often than ever before; I notice that it allows me to kind of relate situations that I read about with my life.  Its like making analogies that lead me to a more clear realization of how to deal with something

Is there a difference between PHYSICALLY reading a book/article and LISTENING to audio books/lectures?

Well...I am not good at reading.I have ADHD so its hard to focus for that long. But lately I have been reading a lot because I am not a smart guy and I will be going to a four year college very soon, so I need to get better at reading for classes that, well, I need to read stuff in. I am really enjoying myself so far and I can see myself still reading for fun in the next few years (which is rare because I get bored of things very quickly. I just get restless and stop.)
