Just to let random people know: The game runs on the IW9 engine. During each build a lot of compiled code and internal data objects get obfuscated using "control-flow flattening" techniques. Basically, each executable that gets deployed contains different sizes for internal data objects and different instructions. Therefore, some builds are more cache friendly for the processor, compared to other builds. Each update of the executable can make battlenet run better than steam and vice versa. These internal obfuscation techniques have been implemented to make it harder for cheat developers to reverse engineer the code. Obviously, that did not work out. Cheat developers are using frameworks like YARA, Unicorn, Zydis, etc. to outsmart these obfuscations easily. However, these techniques are the major reason why each update "feels" strange regarding performance. I believe the game would get a huge fps boost if these obfuscations were removed, cause cache misses would be reduced by alot. Players don't benefit from these obfuscations. It only forces you to buy a processor like 7800X3D, which has a huge L3 cache, making cache misses less likely.

Source: trust me bro.

I have major stuttering issues on battlenet while on steam it runs super smooth.

Blizzard has lots of network lags and pocket burst in India. With less network lags Steam is better option for Indian Subcontinent players.

on the right it is a bit darker and maybe sharper. maybe not the same graphics settings.

Interesting that the frametime seems better on steam even though battlenet has higher fps.

Wow I was expecting to see the same results I had instead I saw the opposite that's so strange. I was also experiencing crashed updates on battlenet where the game would be installing an update and then all of a sudden say that something went wrong and then I would try to fix it and it would tell me that it could not fix it while in the middle of an update so I would have to uninstall and reinstall the game every time and update came out which was about once every week or two sometimes a couple of days. Steam does not have that problem at all.

I mean I still will prefer the steam version, I really like the overlay

if you launched steam with " -nobrower" command argument, maybe you'd get equal results

Maybe battlenet was better optimised to keep people on it

saw somewhere that switching from steam to battlenet can help some people with crashes and now i see why

Battle is stuttering from 20-30 FPS and Steam is great, runs at 70-110 FPS

Can anyone explain why the VRAM usage is lower on the battlenet version? This to me, leads me to believe that the graphic settlings where different somewhere which could account for the slightly better performance in some areas of the map dependent on the render quality being requested. Just a food for thought.

This is weird cause on steam i get slightly more frames more consistently than battlenet. And it runs smoother overall.
