'Roots' & ‘Good Times’ actor John Amos dies at 84

Amos, who was best known for playing family patriarch James Evans Sr. on the sitcom "Good Times," died on Aug. 21 in Los Angeles, his publicist told ABC News in a statement.

What a talented and good man. Others may feel (hopefully not) that it slights him to say that my favorite role of his was his major character in the second Die Hard movie. Absolutely superb. When I re-watch that movie, which I periodically do, his strong character and acting just doesn't quit. An absolute presence on screen. Rest in Peace, sir. Thank you.
