Finland is the most exciting stage, no argue the great drivers came from this country.

one of the unexplainable things that can almost bring a man to tears. I dont care much for modern cars but this, this is just glorious. any of these over a modern supercar, no second thoughts about it.

The sound of the Audi Quattro 5 cylinder engine on full boost is like nothing else. It honestly sounds like a force of nature - like the drivers can barely control it.

This is the first time I realized they raced Group B at night... these people were actually insane... in a badass way.

The sound in the footage of 3 different cars taking that same corner starting at 3:06 is incredible. The sound of the Quattro through the woods is terrifying

You can always tell when the Quattro is coming because of that squeak!

I have the audio from this video burned to a CD and have it playing every time I am highway driving.

Wonderful.

Now i fully understand why the rally legend Walter Rohl once said in an interview "i didn't want to participate in Finland rally because half the time you are flying" ...makes sense now after i watched this video !!!

even the 205 Turbo 16 sounds 1000 times better than any modern V6 F1

Goosebumps, tears of joy and I start giggling like a five year old watching this pure awesomeness. I always will be jealous of my father for I never have and will never ever experience this level of excitement in a rally.

Good god. I'll *never* get over how great the Metro sounds. Almost like it's about to explode and shatter into a million pieces. One of the most soulful and glorious sounds ever created. So much personality. Makes me giddy like a child.

Your film is the closest thing to being there I have yet seen- hugely appreciated! Was it really 30 minutes? Felt like 30 seconds...! Think I'll watch it again...

I'm a 26 year old guy, so I didn't have the chance to witness this time, but when I was 17, they started off a nearby rally in a city I live close to, and I got to see an S1 and two S2 there. I wasn't absolutely crazy into cars and haven't seen a rally before that day.

There was one turn where there was just a concrete barrier and a fence next to a turn going away from it, so they allowed viewers to stand there, and I got the chance to feel these things from roughly 1, 5m distance. They started pretty late that day, so I had all kinds of awesome sounding cars from all kind of groups going past before, theres was one older 911 which I thought was incredibly loud until that point.

Then the Quattros came. I remember clear as day when the announcer said "next up are two absolute beasts" and then I already heard this monstrous roar from the other end of that parking lot where they started. Usually you could hear the starting cars a little bit, but the quattros made the fences shake we held onto from that distance already.
I didn't know the car by then and was really eager what's going to come around that corner in a few moments...
It was this track where two cars would drive at the same time on different lanes, then change lanes after one lap and go around again. The drivers were pretty even so suddenly there's a black S2 and the yellow HB livery S1 ABSOLUTELY ROARING sideways through the turn, kicking up dirt behind them and then lighting the cloud of dust with the afterfire from the exhaust as they shifted to accelerate out of that turn. It felt like all my bones in my body got shaken up by these monsters. It took me a good minute to snap out of the awe again these things caused me to go into.
I'm still young, but few moments in my life so far stuck to my memory this vividly, and I think it's an experience I won't forget for the rest of my live.

And to agree with the words of Xc31, seeing and hearing these things on video and remembering that experience, really does bring me close to tears, it's just such an awe inducing machine.

Brings back memories, I was 12 and didn’t realise how lucky I was to witness this glorious chapter of motorsports…

Yeah, it was dangerous, but it was the best rally era ever!
