It helped me to realize that I'm giving all of myself as a living sacrifice, not merely emotions and obedience, but also my will, cognitive self, relationships, resources—all that makes me into me. So I don't have to feel it. There's more to me than that. Besides, it's not about me anyway. But I do try to have a target win every week. God, what would you like me to risk so that if you don't show up, I'll fall flat? Is it helping a worship leader I'm training to have a success? Is it connecting better with the congregation during my opening? Is it serving the pastor in some way to help set him up for success? I find joy in that win because Jesus is working through me. I can't allow my emotional level to dictate the opportunity for people who are desperate to make a connection with the Lord this Sunday. They can't afford me to have an off week. These things might be something basic that you mastered long ago. But for me, finding these connection points has sustained over 30 years of ministry.
