I agree that understanding opening principles is much more important and useful than just memorising a lot of lines. I didn't learn any theory line till I have got to about 1600. People there start playing a lot of different gambits and usually you want to know what to play against it, especially in blitz or bullet. In rapid tho there's enough time to try to figure it out all by yourself without theory

90% of games 900-1400 are just mirror matches with this exact same Italian setup. I started using gambits and traps purely because I was bored of these games and I shot up to 1800.

Personally as an early game threat I like to put bishop staring at D7 pawn and line up queen far away.

I'm determined to surpass the maximum cpu that has 3200 elo. I'm roughly at 1600 elo right now. I've been taking notes on my matches with it and I can maintain an average of taking out 2 - 3 pawns and 3 - 4 power pieces and lasting 26 turns before it destroys me.

I start by moving my pawns on B2 and G2 out of the way to move my bishops to take out their bishops. Afterwards, I try to force it into sacrificial situations which sometimes works while it forces me into hostage situations which usually works. My tactics are limited and clearly not the best but it's all I can think of.

I need help and you provided excellent advice. Thank you.
