When the law forces the OPEN lane to yield, this offers incredible incentive to get into the closing lane. In this way, you can leap frog literally hundreds of cars and all they can do, by law, is submit.

Logically, every motorist will get into the closing lane, as all of the benefits accrue to motorists in that lane.

If you’re not currently the vehicle in front, simply stand up in your car’s accelerator. Presto! Now you’re in front.

You should've put both scenarios at the same time. NOTE! the laws are different in each state and territory

But at what point is the vehicle, "the vehicle in front"?

That is to say what if a short distance before the merge, the left vehicle is in front, but the right vehicle is driving slightly faster, and then becomes the vehicle in front?

What if it's driven by the worst driver of all time, an Audi driver, who decides to speed past to be "the car in front"?
