How to Hear S1 and S2 Heart Sounds

preview_player
Показать описание
Auscultating heart sounds is a common nursing skill. Knowing how the heart is positioned in the chest and what sounds you should hear - where, will help nurses and health care providers identify if the heart sounds of S1 and S2 are present, and if there are any abnormal heart sounds such as S3 and S4 (see next video).

Review the anatomy of the heart to include how S1 is connected to the tricuspid and bicuspid (mitral) valves; the S2 as it relates to the pulmonic and aortic valves. Bonus analogy to help explain heart sounds to your patients.

Well my first comment read more like a novel than a quick comment and I got cut off. I'll keep it as brief as possible. I am an Internal Medicine physician and got my MD degree in 1999. Throughout the tons of lectures I've heard on heart sounds yours has got to be the clearest concise no B. S. explanation I've ever heard. I broke both my legs in 2013. The last time I worked was 2014. After over 12 extensive surgeries these past 8 years I decided I better start brushing up. This is the 1st educational medical video I have watched on You Tube and you have really got me motivated. Thank you for passing on your knowledge to others in such a truly incredible way. I realize it's only S1 and S2 but those 2 little sounds are maybe the most important sounds us medical people need to know. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Thank you for a great video. Observation: pneumonic vs. mnemonic. I think you meant the latter at the beginning of the video?

I always cringe when I hear people mispronounce "mnemonic" as if it's an air-filled learning hint, but I've never seen someone go so far as to write it out the wrong way!
