I think the new play announcement is a great thing. Haven't people experienced what happens when you have game stores offering 3/4 formats for fnm or other local tournaments? You only get one or two of them barely/maybe firing instead of the 20-40 person events for the single formats. Too many options lead to less people per event. There just aren't enough magic players to offer all the choices each time. This is why the RCQ system is on a rotating schedule: to keep it fresh. Some people aren't going to like playing standard or pioneer instead of modern, but there are other people who do like those formats and would like to see them succeed. A lot of people don't play those formats because they don't have to/ don't want to buy into those formats. This will give people a reason to actually play those formats and maybe even enjoy them if they haven't played them in awhile. Standard isn't actually that bad anymore. Pioneer is solid but could use a couple shakeups. I personally don't like modern that much, but I will still be playing modern during the modern RCQ season because I like competitive magic. This is a good first step towards defragmenting the competitive player base and bringing back the number of players we used to see on a weekly basis.

as a 6 year standard only player i wish i got into modern cause standard is just a money grab. modern seems rough but atleast ppl can play decks they like for years unlike standard. lantern control and kci/grinding stone look awesome imo.

My take on the last opponent is that they had 4 mana right? I'm thinking 2 cards in hand were borrower and arch charm. When you tapped out of red mana to bolt them, they then were safe to not hide from shrapnel blast so then they Petty theft. In other words, if they main phase theft you could cast a potential blast

I wonder how that deck will evolve with all those new oil-cards like vat of rebirth or Charforger.

in game one of round 2 you could have played one of the cliffs then you would have had enough mana to activate den

Any idea for replacing Ragavan in this deck or is he existential for the strategy? Would really like to build a version of this deck, but the monkey is just too expensive.

I really feel like Blood Fountain has a role in this deck, but in place of what? I wish I knew...

I am sad this wasn't titled "Ping 'em, Blast 'em, Hit Them with the Brew"
