Can Iran Sink a US Navy Aircraft Carrier? #shorts

Can Iran Sink a US Navy Aircraft Carrier? To answer this, let me tell you about a 2002 war game called ''Millennium Challenge,'' in which, there were two teams. The blue team was representing the United States navy, while the red team was representing Iranian navy, or IRIN, using asymmetrical warfare tactics, and guess what. The Blue team suffered extremely heavy losses by the Red team, in which they lost 19 warships including an aircraft carrier, and again guess what. This all happened in just 10 minutes! In 2015, USS Harry S. Truman was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, when Iran fired rockets just 1500 yards away, an attempt to show detergent, oh sorry, I mean deterrence. But an aircraft carrier travels in the center of a layered defense, covering beneath, on the surface and in the air out to several hundred miles around it. Iran couldn't sink it with just rockets or missiles, but with its Kilo-class submarines armed with torpedoes, it can do lots of damage and make it mission incapable. It is completely delusional to think that a carrier is unsinkable, and the reality is, it wouldn't take more than 4 torpedoes to sink a carrier, if it comes in a range.

Truth hurts. The red team was run by a Marine Corps General.

Even, in the Strait of Hormuz the carrier group is quite robust. I remember being on a carrier going through both war games with allied forces and during REFTRA ( refresher training) On the carrier and throughout the group, they did IMPOSSIBLE stuff to the men and ships! Shut off main power during active combat and fires 🔥 in several main spaces; the bridge completely destroyed and radar and sonar jammed and inoperable respectively AT NIGHT AND IN THE RAIN. Chemical and Biological Warfare with half the crew declared dead or missing but simulated flight ops STILL ongoing. Reactor trouble in the middle of a Blue-2 ( intruders on board)- drone and pirate attacks while performing underway replenishment- loss of rudder control, even major casualties being brought in from other ships while submarines were attacking, it was freaking rapid fire mayhem on an apocalyptic scale, no sleep, food once a day, toilet? WHAT TOILET!!—nerve wracking ‼️ You always hear how “…a Norwegian submarine sank a carrier…” but no one talks about how many times the US Sub escort sank that same sub PER DAY! If Iran is tired of living THEN it would attack a carrier group! Most US allies simply cannot fight at the same level as the US so US commanders REALLY take training seriously! Do NOT underestimate the US Military. It is like a country inside of a country🤔🤔👍🏿

If I floats it sinks. Yamato and musashi, unsinkable battleships sunk. Titanic unsinkable ship, sunk

What's sad is you bring up that war game and don't give the man any credit who was putting that beating on them. Ret. USMC Gen Paul Van Riper was his name if I remember correctly, it's been a long time.

The question isn't whether they can sink a aircraft carrier the question is are they willing to pay the price?

And that war game was done 20 years ago!!!

It's important to note that the red team was led by a US Marine General, don't remember his name off the top of my head but you can Google it, using an estimated, notional force to represent a force on par with Iran, not Iran itself

Of course Iran would pay a heavy price if they did!

I've worked on a couple of carrier's the Gipper and Big Stick, along with the Texas and Virgina and unless your looking worse case scenario it is still a chore to sink. They attempted to sink the America CV-66 they hammered the American for days and undefended and no damage control onboard. A team of specialist had to scuttle the old girl because she refused to go quietly. I'm not delusional I know they can be sunk. At the bikini atoll nuclear testing area. We put excess war ships from from WW2 out at the atoll and set off a hydrogen bomb almost exactly under a carrier and the ships of a carrier battle group and it didn't sink the carrier even though it was at ground zero. Check the films it boggled my mind seeing the ships afloat. It does have double hulls and twin keels gives it a redundant resistance to suck up the shock of having the the water displaced under it leaving it's hull patial it's keel broken

U.S. Navy deploys 1-2 attack subs with carrier strike group for just that reason.

Well, they now have an hypersonic missile of their own now and not like the American prototype one

Keep in mind, this was a long time ago. Now we have upgraded and acquired new tech.

I dont know about the particular wargame exercise they were talking about. But from what i know about them, i understand that the team representing the USA forces is always put into a scenario heavily stacked in favor of the team representing the opposing force. They want to make the American commanders face the worst possible odds, make mistakes and learn from the exercise. They are almost always a no win situation with the opposing force operating at a much higher level than they could ever reach in reality(no mistakes, no attrition, perfect logistics, etc). Thats the best way to learn.... That being said, the video is correct. It is ridiculous to think that an aircraft carrier can't be taken out, especially by a force that has a navy. It would even be possible for a small group of independent fighters(for example, terrorists or mercenaries).

You don’t need to sink it !! Just put it out of action !

I know that the USS Saratoga (CV-60) would have taken numerous torpedos to sink!!! (I served aboard her during her 1980 to 82. modernization and saw parts of her that are rarely seen since they cut inspection holes.)

Now this was also when the US Navy ships weren't "minimally manned" and you also not only the enough crew but also the Damage Control Training to save a ship!@ (And the ships have high grade steel through out .vs. how light can we build it to save money!)

Take. a. look at the USS Aaron Ward (DM-34) before and after pictures and you will see how solidly built US Navy ships used to be!!!

I guess nobody realizes the carrier strike group has dozens of anti-aircraft guns and missiles. It's nearly impossible to sink a carrier because of the compartments forget the strikes actually hit the carrier.
