VANFORD vs STRADIC FL.... Which reel do you choose?

Had a chance to sit down and make a video comparing the new Shimano Vanford to the latest Stradic FL reel.

I have had both. I like the Stradic FL over the vanford for inshore fishing. It’s heavier but tougher and still Shimano smooth, still light but not CI4 light. Vanford is a great inshore reel too…. I have a 3000 on a 7’0 ML inshore rod and it’s a great combo. Just doesn’t feel as durable as in the salt to me. Think it’s geared more to freshwater guys that may occasionally fish inshore but if you primarily fish inshore or even saltwater I’d go with the stradic FL if you want more versatility and to replace less bearings. If you wade fish inshore I would go with the FL for sure in case you dunk it by accident

Picked up the Vanford 4000 for trout, steelhead and Atlantic salmon/pacific salmon for St. Mary’s river this past summer. Light reel and very smooth drag. Paired with 9’6” convergence. Great combo

I'm thinking of going for the Vanford 3000. I throw a lot of senkos and other finesses style baits from the bank and it's pretty clear water where I fish so I like having the extra line for those far out casts and the power of a 3000 size for those long distance hook sets and retrieves. Plus the fact that it's much lighter than the Stradic FL means more casts with less fatigue. Not to mention the 3000 sizes balance so well on my 7'3" St Croix Victory rod.

Since 2015 I use a Stradic C5000 XG and a 4.20 m Mitchell rod; it's just joy!

I ordered a stradic fl and a st croix mojo inshore as my first ever saltwater setup that i can call my own (my dad has a bunch of setups) I’m also gonna use it for bass and other bigger freshies

Hello there! Great video, but im trying to find answer. Whats the difference between shimano stradic fl2500 and fl3000? I just got fl2500 but wanted fl3000, all stores were out of stock. Did i screw up, or not? Thanks!

Is one sealed better then the other? I am looking for a saltwater reel. I am going to pair it with a 7' St. Croix Mojo Inshore Medium Heavy. I will be using it for top water surf fishing and fishing from the banks of the intracoastal. Throwing jigs, Heddon Spook, and Tsunami Talkin Popper Floating Lure.

What's the rod you put the vanford on? I bought Vanford 4000 and looking for a good rod that can match the reel... I know it doesn't matter, but I like it when it matches.

Vanford is also perfect for small silicon lures and egging where you need a lightweight reel with good drag because you will do a lot of twitching for a long time. 2500 hg is perfect for those things.

Had the latest Vanford 4000 for about 4 months. Primary inshore white trout fishing. It's amazing. But what's really great is when i do hook a big red or whatever else happens to be there it handles them flawlessly as well. The smooth drag really shines on the bigger drum species.
