for simple use buy iphone
for better image quality buy dslr
if you have more budget buy both to get a better image quality depending on the situation and conditions

everyone talks about the iPhone with accurate colours, but compared with an actual camera it's no where near accurate. I always knew that agrument is flawed.

But when you are using an actual portrait lens (on a full frame body ) such as an 85mm f1.8 or the new sigma 135mm f1.8 the difference in quality of the blur and amount of blur is dramatic, although it is a lot more expensive for the DSLR at that point

You could’ve made the background for the mark way more blurry by lowering the aperture

There is also one more BIG difference between iPhone and DSLR: image sharpness. The pictures taken with my iPhone 6S look absolutely garbage on my 5K iMac compared to the pictures taken with my full frame DSLR. The iPhone pictures just lack all the details and clarity of the full frame images. iPhone is great when I don´t have my camera with me or I don´t bother to use it for something like taking pictures of things that I should remember for some time, but for anything serious, its not gonna be great.

Why doesn’t iPhone 7plus have Selfie portrait mode and why’s it so zoomed in

Google camera app on android been creating a similar fake shallow depth of field effect on android phones with just one lens and been out for a couple of years now with very similar effect..

It does not mimic a larger sensor camera.. the blur does not depend on the sensor at all, it depends on the camera lens which refracts the light for the sensor. Also Android phone lenses and software for processing images are shitty and unprofessional, it doesn't matter if it's a s7 (plus you can't edit pictures with a Samsung phone) that's why photographers prefer iPhone for camera quality
