The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in health has the potential to transform health systems across Europe, making them more effective and efficient while also increasing access to care. Although there are many benefits associated with the use of AI, many challenges and concerns need to be addressed. The deployment of AI in health raises questions on issues such as the impact on the health workforce, unforeseen inequalities arising from the inclusiveness of AI applications, privacy, trust, and data access, as well as broader questions on ethical considerations and social implications of its use. Without citizen trust, acceptance and understanding of AI’s full potential will likely not be realised.

Against this background, this CHES All Policies for a Healthy Europe event focused on the role of AI in health across the European Union and discussed the role of members states and the EU institutions in addressing the challenges and the societal concerns associated with the use of AI in health.
