Had such a positive response from my last Epic Shootout, that I took the opportunity to do one on the Canon 70D and Nikon D7100, testing the most important functions of each camera in a head to head comparison. I spend a lot of time on the opening sequence so you guys know this is a piece of work that is important to me and not one that I take lightly. I know all shooters are very passionate about their respective brands and I want to be as fair and unbiased as possible, so I hope you enjoy the Epic Movie Teaser Opening and especially results I share in this shootout.

As always, I am sure there will be plenty of criticism and scrutiny about my tests, so if you have comments or recommendations I would love to hear them, I sincerely want to improve what I am doing. Something I try to do on all my videos is to show the actual evidence on how I came to the conclusions I did, instead of just reading sheet specs or basing my conclusions on opinions. If you disagree with me, I can respect that too, just please show / explain why you feel the way you do with data. (Trolls and fanboy comments, not so much lol).

If there are mistakes I have made & I imagine there will be, I will do my best to point these mistakes out. I am making a very serious effort to improve the quality of both the information and method of presenting, so I thank you for your support!

One thing I failed to mention was how much FUN the 70D is to shoot. It really is a very enjoyable shooting experience.

The opening sequence was shot with a Canon 5Diii and a Glidecam 4000. It takes a lot of practice to get smooth shots and I know I have plenty of room to improve.

Hi Michael, one of your loyal fans who bought (legally) your Nikon D7100 Crash Course DVD! Love my D7100 and the ease of features as compared to the Canon comparable.
I have had more than a few friends who sold their Canon Rebel series and jumped over to the Nikon D series and were much happier with the quality difference.

I would absolutely recommend your Crash Course videos which amazingly cover not only the basic features but also some of the most important "advanced" features which I consider a huge bonus over other alleged "Learn to" videos sold by other people.
The video is a daily reference for me until I finally feel as though I've absolutely mastered all of my cameras features, of which their are quite a few of.

I'm a loyal Nikon D7000 (soon a D7100) fan and my best friend is a loyal Canon 70D fan... we still after 2 years fight over which is better! Great video, this really puts an unbiased viewpoint on the table. We both love our cameras!

70D owner here! I am very pleased with your comparison. It tells the full story of both cameras. I put together slideshows too so it's improtant that I can trust my camera to get it right once i have set it up. WB is always spot on! as are many other of the features your test. The best camera is the one that you can concentrate on the image and not have to think too hard about the setting(30yrs photography here). That's what the canon gives me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

The best 35 minutes I have spent today watching this video to arrive at a conclusion, compared to the endless websites I viewed yesterday for a healthy comparison. A complete and thorough comparison through real time tests between the beasts, but I have made up my mind. I am going for the Canon EOS 70D! That TouchScreen display and Wifi Connectivity is a HUGE plus!

Fantastic review! As I was searching for a better image quality for photography and I don't care so much about video features, I opted for the D7100 and I'm VERY IMPRESSED about its imagem quality, sharpness and low light focusing! Definitely a superb camera. Thank you Michael for help me on that choice!

Michael,   this is the best comparison of the 70D and D7100 that I have seen! Completely unbiased and really fair tests that showed the ups and downs of both DSLRs. And it really stood up to the title, this one's EPIC! (y) keep it up bro! your videos have really improved a lot!

Not judging Mike on this because he's done the greatest job on this review, but important to highlight that the Nikon d7100 body has an integrated Magnesium and a pro level water proofed body while the 70D is plastics with no claim to advanced water proofing. Something to consider while weighing in extra features.
