I have always had so much love and kindness from my mom. We have always been so close. She is 90. I take care of her and my dad now the way they took care of me. I know I have had a blessed life with my parents. I am grateful.

"When you're a 10-gallon person in a one-pint family." That got me good. Some people can't give more love because of the hurt in their own hearts. It's comforting knowing that now. But it's hard, so very hard when you don't understand in those moments the hurt is happening. The best we can do is forgive our abusers, heal ourselves. It's THE gift available to all of us.

I realize when my daughter was two years old that I would never have the mother daughter relationship I had always wanted with my mother, so it was up to me to have that relationship with my daughter only from the other perspective. I have that precious relationship with my daughter. She and I are beyond close, and I thank my therapist for making me realize that I could not change the past but I could shape the future.

My mother was a kind person but unable to open her heart to her daughters. My sister never felt loved and me I just became the achiever in everything. Difficult relationship until the end of her life. A few hours before she passed this April, she was in a coma. I washed her face, touched her hands and talked to her telling her that she did the best she could and that all was well. Before leaving her, I kissed her forehead and told her that it was ok to go. She passed peacefully 2 hours later. I forgave her, I forgave myself as well and now I am indeed free.
