'The son of a bitch WILL fly...!'
Brilliant!

Not in the clip:

"Do you know who I am?"
"What pilot doesn't, Mr. Hughes?"

I love how they incorporate actual historical figures and events into this wonderful sci-fi fantasy. The Rocketeer unintentionally showing Howard Hughes if his Spruce Goose could actually fly. Brilliant!

Who else is awake at night unable to sleep and randomly thinking of this scene 30 years later?

After seeing this movie again after growing up so many years of my childhood.
Rocketeer has been my super hero for the longest time.
And this scene specifically is the only one Hughes not only drop a curse word in a Disney movie, but he immediately paid attention to his Hercules model fly, proving his giant plane will work!

Funny that historical figure Howard Hughes was featured here, especially considering he was the inspiration for Stan Lee in the making of Tony Stark/Iron Man

Animation directed by Mark Dindal (director of Cat's Don't Dance and The Emperor's New Groove) .

They should have had Cliff damage the Spruce Goose just a little bit, like everything else he touches, and that damage should have been the thing that made it fly. That would have made this scene famous.

O'Quinn was a brilliant choice to play Hughes. He even looked like him.

"It will fly" - Thanks 1990s PC Disney Channel. Thank you 1990s Disney for some great childhood memories.

The propaganda film looks remarkably like a real one by that period.
....
If it was made by the Allies. Why would the germans make a propaganda film where they're the menacing looking bad guys? And with ominous music playing during their attack and evil shadowing over their flags and the german eagle and all that? If it was supposed to be German made, it would probably show some Aryan-Superman looking blonde dude flying around in a jetpack and saving a woman from some semitic-stereotype looking dude or whatever.

I loved this movie as a kid. Rewatched it the other night and at this scene I thought:
'It's a good thing the Nazis made this movie detailing their plans with the rocket... In the form of a cartoon... In which they've clearly cast themselves as the villains.'

When watching this movie and then this scene popped up, I honestly thought we were gonna see Neville suit up into an Anti-Rocketeer outfit, a bit disappointed when that we didn’t actually get that. Hopefully in the new Return of The Rocketeer movie we actually get to see an Evil Rocketeer

For everyone thinking that the Nazi's plan in the propaganda film is ridiculous, consider a few things:

1. Germany (Hitler himself) declared War on the US a few days after Pearl Harbor. So the US could have been on Germany's radar for invasion or takeover.

2. Of course no one expects Rocketmen to go across the Atlantic and then invade. Obviously the arrows are just meant for dramatic effect. It'd be far more obvious to have the Rocketmen travel via boat and then invade from off shore or dropped from planes.

3. Cliff had no training or experience with the Rocket and yet look at everything he accomplished within a few days of having it. Now imagine what thousands of trained soldiers with their own rockets could achieve. Sure they couldn't carry bombs or much ammo like a plane could, but it could be an advantage which would win them the war.

4. It's a fantasy adventure movie like Raiders. I think Thousands of Rocketmen winning a war makes more sense than carrying a Golden Box into battle. Take the concept with a grain of salt.

The animated sequence was done by animation veteran Mark Dindal. Who later directed The Emperor’s New Groove and Chicken Little for Disney. He also later directed Warner Bros. Cats Don’t Dance and 2024s The Garfield Movie.
