Thoreau said it best here, in my estimation.Greed and stupidity.The only thing I would add is that the stupidity is usually the result of the greed.If we do lose our biosphere (which I still have great hope that we will not), it will be because the fossil fuel industry refuses to relinquish their profits.I will probably be garbling this paraphrase, but I seem to remember reading somewhere a quote--I think from Upton Sinclair (who I always confuse with Sinclair Lewis) who said something to the effect (I am paraphrasing from memory) that it is extremely difficult to get a person to understand something when their salary depends on their not understanding! i.e. greed=stupidity=fatal mistakes.The fossil fuel industry.I rest my case.
