At 8:00pm UTC, 4pm Eastern and 4am China Standard Time, this video received and significant increase in views from 'Hong Kong' this is often a VPN entry for China activist also known as the "10 Cent Army".... means the 10cent army get to work very early in the morning. I want to welcome every click, message and video playthrough they give this video. I encourage all other viewers to check out the comments and spot the Chinese Shill and point them out. We can make it a drinking game! Cheers! -Aaron

Good news for the US is that it's not all one way traffic when it comes to technology transfer between the US and Australia. I'm on the periphery of a couple of projects/techs that we (Australia) have just started sharing with the US and UK. The reactions of our American and British brethren to some of it can only be described as giddy.

AUKUS should have happened 20 years ago. Better late than never.

There will be an announcement by the Australian government in March about the subs. In the meantime I've got a friend or two heading to nuke school in the US next year.

It is not all a one way street with info coming from the USA. Australia has the Loyal Wingman system that it is sharing with the USA. It is a lot more advanced than the USA thought. It will provide a massive Boost to Aircraft attack capability.

VERY happy to have our long term defense partner working on our soil. Many Australians don't understand the importance for Australians of having this relationship. I for one welcome you and support you on all fronts. Bless the U.S.

As an aussie I am glad we are getting the subs. We need them and the capability they provide. Glad to see us english speakers growing closer! We have similar values and culture and will only be stronger together.

As a Canadian I feel left out 😭. Our government is so dumb when it comes to our defence

We’ve been partners for over a century. This just goes one step further. Five Eyes. ANZUS. WWI, WWII, Malaysia, Korea, The Indonesian Confrontation, Vietnam, Somalia, the 2 Iraq wars, Afghanistan. These all involved Australians in partnership with at least one of the other two. In Timor Leste we operated with other nearby partners. We also offered military help to Britain for the falklands but they declined. And we have sensitive bases operated by the US and Australia in partnership.

Also, hypersonic flight testing has already been carried out in Australia before this agreement, in a collaboration between UQ and a US organisation(I can’t remember which), researching SCRAM jets.

I just see this as a further evolution of our alliance.

I am so happy to see this; it is decades too late. Keep up your excellent work. Thank you for your continued service.

Awesome that we're partnering with Australia! I can't help but make this joke: How would DARPA have dealt with the Emu War?

Thats not how DARPA works, the 220 Employees of DARPA review proposals and put out specs for research labs to come up with innovative ideas and decide who gets funding from the DOD's budget for their new projects.

It's not *totally* a one way direction when it comes to tech lol. Example: check out the Loyal Wingman drones developed about 2hrs drive from where I live. Unfortunately Boeing gave it the very Hollywood name of Ghost Bat lol. (EDIT: already noted by others - apologies).
What the US gets most out of AU for their investment is 1) a perfectly positioned, continent-sized base with infrastructure to support land, sea and air assets; 2) An ally that will actually fight (proven track record). Although not mentioned so much in this vid, I have no doubt that the UK brings an enormous amount to the table.

I would like to see the USA, UK, and Australia among others cooperating on new reactor designs and new fuel standards to make HALEU TRISO fuel at around 18% enrichment the new standard for civilian nuclear power for new construction going forward. This would also be a good option for military use for countries that prefer to use similar reactors and fuels for both civilian and military applications. Of course enrichment much higher than that for fuel remains an option but is problematic for most countries even for military reactor use because of security, treaty, and political issues. HALEU could be particularly attractive as an option for France, India, and Japan that are currently working on new civilian nuclear power projects and France and India are also working on military nuclear power projects. The USA, UK, and Australia could potentially lead the way for HALEU and allow certain allies to participate.

From reading the comments on this feed I found out Australia invented the Scramjet which I never knew.

This is fabulous news for folks like me Downunder interested in such stuff. I was so very impressed when AUKUS was announced as I knew it would mean groundbreaking technologies for Australia. Many thanks!!!

I think it will be unlikely that Astutes or Virgina Class will be built in Australia, what is more likely to happen, if at all, is the Aussies will build a few Astute's in the UK as a stop gap, although this is now an obsolete design, and would be undesirable to further complicate the RAN Maintenance Logistics of Collins to Collins/Astute, and then Collins/Astute/future SSN;, instead of a single transition from Collins to Collins/future SSN; however Astutes's modular design is cheaper to construct, and the manning requirement is less, and we might see the option taken up by an Australian Government. If taken, then Astute does make more practical sense in terms of cost and training, plus the boats are stealthier, and the construction technique of building modular designs will likely be adopted by any future SSN.

If a few Astute's are built, then this lends the idea that a maintenance facility port will be built first in Australia, to allow nuclear qualifications and training on existing Astute's and Virginia's., then again, this is likely to be the first construction anyway.

Whilst the construction of a couple of Astute Class is possible, what is more likely is that existing British and US SSN's will perform Patrol Duties in Australian Waters, and elsewhere, and a part of the crew will be Australian.

In conjunction, with Maintenance and Build Halls being constructed in Australia for the next generation of SSN, which will likely be the best technology in one class of SSN, using all the technology and innovation pooled from all three countries.

The cheaper and more stealthy British Astute, combined with the advanced Navigation and Weapon Technology of Virginia, along with Australian newly shared Technology and Innovation, will result in an AUKUS Class SSN, operated by all three Countries, reducing Construction Costs, Manning, , and Maintenance Costs, but increasing Stealth, Interoperability, Lethality, and size of any combined Fleet/Resource.

If the USN was operating Astute today, it could likely put more Boats in the water for the same operating costs, so a more efficient AUKUS Class SSN would likely result in a similar increase in USN SSN Fleet, and as RAN has already committed to a bigger Defence GDP and 8 SSNs, and the RN is also going to increase its NATO GDP to 3%, and mention has been made regarding increasing its existing SSN Fleet already, then the likely result of a AUKUS Class will be an increased Fleet in any event.

"Sharing hypersonic technology with Australia" implies it is US developments going to Australia, but Australia is actually (very quietly) a world leader in hypersonic (scramjet) technology.

It is worth remembering that AUKUS is built on the experience, trust and belief within the '5 Eyes' intelligence group of Canada, New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the USA.
I am pretty sure that if Australia choose the Astute (as I think they will) they will focus on the actual boat building and the much higher levels of engineering and the training of crews (already started with an Aussie crew on HMS Anson) for operation of the subs rather than look to build the nuclear powerplant itself. Rolls Royce has developed excellent ways of building them and transporting them in a very safe way. So I think RR will be the people who do the actual build, installation and run up of the actual powerplants.

I would like to include Japan in this agreement. It helps the optics for it not to be an anglophone clique. Also their industrial capacity is quite formidable and would be a welcome addition to the team. I would also include Canada and NZ if they wanted to but seems like they want to do the bare minimum
