I think what bothers me more than them doing it is the media and social media giving them credit as "hackers". Not only does it create unnecessary fear in people, but it gives people who are just running a script across a botnet entirely too much credit.

Great info mate. My 13yo tried to tell me that we had been DDOS’d and I told him to go take a reality pill. I owe my teenage son a humble apology. I’m also heading out right this minute to purchase a new wireless modem-router.

The problem with DDOS is that it is ok if that server is in your house or office, but if that server is in a Data Center your server will be blocked by the data center, to prevent network packets being sent to your IP. So, noting will ever stop DDOS attacks unless data centers block them at point of entry other than that it is your responsibility and they WILL shut your server down to prevent traffic going to your server. But just like all things, the
"hacker" gets bored and moves on to somebody else.

what about a direct attack on your router and its offline how do I fix it?

So here's a question. What would happen if as a DDOS hacker you put in some code that would randomize the message that it was sending to the server a small amount and ran the actual bots through a vpn or some form of service that would hide their IP address so that the service could never figure out what or who was sending the messages and if they were actually different messages.
