Samus in Super Metroid was based off a famous celebrity of the 90's. But which one?

I love that Samus is buff in Super metroid.

She's a badass bounty hunter that's so good she's got enemies and helps out an intergalactic military force.

She could easily have her own mandalorian style series that shows off parts of her interactions with pirates, collecting bounties and helping people from different planets, reveal parts of her backstory halfway through (ridley, how she got her chozo armor, who and how she was before the armor) and then the lead up to the actual metroid incident.

I could easily see 2 to 3 seasons of this with the pirates, metroid, prime, and Fusion elements easily woven throughout.

I didn't know Metroid when I was a kid but I distinctly remember a kid excitedly telling all of us at the school bus stop that Samus was a woman. That kid was so excited 😭

Wish we could've gotten a good Metroid movie with her as Samus.

Nintendo didn’t go out of their way to refer to Samas as a male in the instruction manual… the writers literally didn’t know

Only a small few of the devs worked on and knew about the reveal at the end of the game

More or less...

originally Samus Aran was based of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) for both Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus. You can see she wears the SAME undergarments as Ellen Ripley from the first Alien movie...

They did update her to look more like Kim Basinger in Metroid 3.

That's also how Ridley got his name in Metroid...

Both Aliens and Metroid were released in 1986.

Kinda dislike how they made the newer models of Samus less muscular(?) and more slim. The one showed looked like a space soldier but the new ones look like a runway model.

As a child in that era we didn't call her Samus, we called her Metroid and even after someone beat it and told you nobody believed them that she was a gorl

Fun fact, Samus aran I widely considered the first female protag in video games. However she was actually beaten to the punch four years earlier by Ms. Pacman

The trope of "badass fully armored character that does nothing to indicate their gender is actually a girl" is named "Samus Is A Girl"

Remember when samus used to be ripped and not an overly feminine looking protag who has never seen weights in her life?

Shame we never got a live action Metroid movie starring Kim Bassinger.

When I was a kid my best friend asked me if i like someone and I showed him a picture of Samus from the Super Metroid strategy guide book. He then looked at me with a serious look in his eyes and said "This is just a drawing" completely shattering my delusion. Tbh... probably saved me from a life of anime waifu chasing lol

My dad recently found out Samus was a girl. I way playing super smash bros with my brother and picked zero suit samus and he was surprised and was wondering when she became female

I remember as a kid I somehow accidentally ended up with Samus popping up without power armor and thinking later on that I dreamt it was a female character and then someone later telling me she was indeed a she and wondering how the hell I got her to show up sans armor because I was not very good at the game

I'm glad you gave an example of who Kim Basinger played, because I had no idea who Kim Basinger is

4th grade, my boy let me know while playing Smash Bros. I was shocked, but respected the female representation.

Fkn hell Kim Basinger would have been a perfect Samus Aran if they made Metroid movie in the 90s

On that note...why the hell hasn't Nintendo made a live-action Metroid series?
