Hey guys! It's time for another amazing final boss theme from Final Fantasy. This time we're taking on Necron from Final Fantasy IX!

I knew going into this arrangement that I was about to get super crazy with some of Mr. Uematsu's trademark wacky melodies. Having done a few of his other works in this department, I knew this wouldn't be the easiest arrangement I've ever done. But I knew that I'd be super proud of it in the end like all of my other FF boss themes!

This theme has a very interesting flow as it starts out with a very gloomy intro that repeats a few times and sets the mood for the fight. I decided to cut the intro in my arrangement down a tad so we can get into the metalness slightly quicker. We all want that riff asap :)

The main riff of this theme is so sick for metal. It has a really melodic metal / technical death metal vibe to it which is completely at home for me. I instantly knew what I wanted to do with it and really from hereon-out had no challenges coming up with a rhythm section for the whole arrangement.

The melodies however were super challenging as Uematsu's style is always so outside-of-the-box from normal patterns you'd expect from VGM and guitar playing. After spending numerous hours learning these melodies and recording them, they eventually became easy to play and it's so rad to be able to do some unique stuff that I would have never thought of on guitar. That's one of the things I love most about video game metal.

Dude I LOVE FFIX's soundtrack. There are so many songs that would sound just as amazing on guitar as they do in-game. I couldn't convince you to do Trance Kuja's theme or the boss theme could I?

Yeah, I recall first hearing the original version of this music in the original Epic Battle Fantasy game which I've used to enjoy playing on Mofunzone and Newgrounds back as a young kid. Thank you for this metal cover anyway.

I was actually a bit scared by how Goku appeared and looked anyway. At least, it had no negative impact on me like it's Kogasa Tatara (one of the characters from my childhood series called Touhou Project).
