Learn about Rutherford's discovery of the nucleus and the development of the nuclear model of the atom.

Chemistry on Khan Academy: Did you know that everything is made out of chemicals? Chemistry is the study of matter: its composition, properties, and reactivity. This material roughly covers a first-year high school or college course, and a good understanding of algebra is helpful.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Nice explanation of the Rutherford-Marsden-Geiger Experiment. Nice effort by Khan Academy on teaching kids science at their homes and free.

Rehearsing and having notes would help a lot.

Tissue paper and bullet reference was Epic 😊

Now I know why Rutherford had thought the particles would just go straight through the foil!

Wonderful emphasis on the scientific method through it

I agree, she's doing fine, listen to what she's saying... this is how we move to new concepts of the universe. Who would have ever thought of "dark matter"...but now here we are looking for ways to prove it, 50 years from now well all be ok with Dark Matter and someone will find something else that doesn't do what we expect so someone will as that question and do an experiment that shows that our view of the universe was wrong. And on it goes.

I think this is a great lesson, thanks.

I like the change of voice. I like Sal but who cares. The more the merrier. :)

But alpha particles are known as particles that you can easily block with just a piece of paper. So in this case how could alpha particles beam through the gold foil?

Thank you very much for an amazing lesson. :).

90% of the people in the comment section are only worried or angry because of the person speaking. Who gives a s**t! Her explanation is acceptable. Good video!

great information! however, I had a bit of a hard time getting it because you were explaining it in a slow matter as if you were on the verge of forgetting about what you were trying to say. this video would be truly be undeniably great if you had notes off to the side or even if you had already prepared this presentation. seems like you were both prepared and unprepared. would be a great lesson if you had redone it seems more confident in your words.

I appreciate her effort. But as you can see, i dont think im the only one who prefers Sal explaining. Sorry dude.. but i couldnt really focus on what she was saying.

The gold foil is 1000 atom thick then how this heavy alpha particle pass through it.. please any one know about the structure of gold atom arrangements in the foil.

1/12000 reflected not 20000, it matters a lot
