In the EU you can drive 10 hours from A to B, visit multiple countries and be home for dinner. In the US you can drive 10 hours from A to B and still be stuck in Texas.

Only reason is that in EU max length applies to total length of the truck, while in USA the max length applies only to the box. So in EU we need to have a shorter cabin in order to maximize the load

For all the Americans 18.75 meters is about 4 and a half industrial washing machines

I work in the oil and gas sector in Australia 🇦🇺 and it’s not too uncommon to see trucks towing five massive trailers behind it in remote areas.Pretty awesome stuff to see, look up “Australian road train” if want to see some 😊

You do realise that crossing from say, mid Finland to bottom of Spain is further than from north to south of the USA… and yes truckers drove that far, especially truckers from Eastern Europe

Take a look at Australian Road Trains, then you'll see how big trucks are. Now that's a truck

Our trucks used to be square or flat in the front as well. Some of our school buses were and still are flat in the front as well. They are doing away with the square or flat front vehicles for safety issues as well. If someone runs into the front of a flat or square truck or the truck hits something from the front, the driver will likely be severely injured or killed. The extended cabs are safer. If they are hit or hit something, the engine will drop downwards by design without severely injuring or killing the truck driver.

In Europe, truckers from Romania and other eastern countries drive weeks at a time, some up to 6 weeks withouth seeing their families. I can confirm, I am in Romania and see this every day...

In Europe we do a lot of long distance work. My company travels from Scotland to Holland, Italy, Greece, Germany, Norway, Poland & Croatia regularly. We also do work into Turkiye and Morocco.

In the states there is so many names for them: 'Tractor Trailers' 'Semi Truck' '18 Wheelers'

In the UK they're commonly called a 'Lorry'

Some countries in Europe have exceptions, for example in Finland the max length of a truck is 34, 5meters (113.18ft to americans)

We do have and have had cab-over designed trucks in the US. We used to have a lot more however, more and more truckers and shipping lines have gone to the longer version tractors.
