GEORGIA ON MY MIND | Relaxing Smoky Blues Guitar

Ray Charles' approach of blending blues, gospel, soul, and jazz into something uniquely inspired and authentic has always inspired me. Every recording he's made is a masterclass in vocal inflection, and studying his vocal lines, vibrato, note bending, and rhythms is some of the best blues practice anyone could get. I've gotten a lot of requests for this tune, and other Ray Charles tunes lately... so here you go!
I tried a few guitars to see which one had the right voice for this song, and the @MuleResonatorGuitars "Mavis" stood out to me. Unplugged it sounds like a mix between a banjo and a resonator guitar, but once you plug it in, it has a surprisingly mellow, jazzy tone. The blend between the two tones is something I haven't heard with any other guitar.

TUNING: Standard Tuning: E-A-D-G-B-E

This would pull a tear out of "Brother Ray's" eye; in fact he's shedding one right now in the Heavens, I'm sure of it. "When I sing, I often cry. Crying is feeling, and feeling is being human. Oh yes, I cry." -Ray Charles..

As a lifetime lover of the blues with a large collection, I have to say Justin is one of the most talented, pleasing to listen to artists on the planet. I listen to this and it reaches through my chest, grabs my soul and holds it hostage while he plays. Thank you Justin, you have officially replaced my blood pressure meds. Thank you for sharing your gift!

As a lifelong Georgian, this song has special meaning. Whether it’s Ray Charles’s original version or Doc Severinson’s awesome trumpet rendition, I never get tired of it. Justin has made one more version that has already become a favorite. Thank you Justin, you are an amazing talent.

God bless, that's just... I don't know man, there's not really a word to describe the beautiful warmth of this performance. It's like looking through a book of old family photos on a winter night with the fire going, while on your second Makers and ginger, feeling the memories start to wash over you.
