Managing the Infodemic for Public Health: A Call to Action for an Evidence-Based Approach, with Dr Christine Czerniak, Technical Lead for Infodemic Management at WHO
An information epidemic has accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic. Information gaps, a mixture of misinformation and malicious disinformation, along with a rapid rise in the volume of information are making it harder for people to know how to best protect themselves and each other. This can lead to harmful behaviours and the erosion of social cohesion. Improving the management of this ‘infodemic’ is critical for a successful pandemic response, and should include any lessons learned being applied to strengthen health systems. So which tools and techniques can we add to our toolbox in this effort? Where do we need more research and innovation to strengthen the global response?
CanCOVID is a dynamic open science collective dedicated to rapidly mobilizing and sharing knowledge to help guide Canada’s COVID-19 response. Since March 2020, CanCOVID has grown to become one of Canada’s leading online science and research communities with over 2,500 members, rapidly producing and disseminating over 500 credible resources in response to the pandemic and post-pandemic future.
