If you need a test subject let me know 😉 hehe.. Thanks for putting this info on YouTube. I had a stroke in April 2018 and managed to get back to some form of normalcy after 6 months of rehab. I struggled to work at the same functional ability I once had, but was able to continue working until covid19 caused cutbacks at my workplace. I had managed to use external strategies to bridge gaps between my former and current abilities, but I have become increasingly aware of just how much I really lost. I am keenly aware of how hard it is to retain new information, which is frustrating considering I used to pride myself on a photographic memory. I still have not forgotten anything pre stroke, which I guess I should be thankful for.
Anyway long story short, thank you for posting this online as the more nuanced information related to stroke recovery is hard to come by. Having plenty of free time on my hands has at least given me an opportunity to better assess where I am currently at..
One question - what do people report to you about their "inner voice", post stroke? Is it common to feel like you haven't changed at all, like you're still "the driver" in your internal thought processes? I have heard theories that suggest your inner voice is just a trick of the mind, and would therefore have you feel a false sense of continuity post stroke. Is it really true that research has yet to understand where your "sense of self", an "inner voice", or "the driver" resides in that big glob of mushy stuff? 😁 If you have any more videos like this one you could recommend that would be great. Better yet - if you think there's even a slim chance of rebuilding my ability to store things better short term / long term, could you point me to those therapies? Are there any drugs (experimental, illegal or otherwise) which can improve neuro plasticity or even regenerate brain cells?
I'm a realist, so don't be afraid to say if it's bad news.. Hehe
Cheers!
