What causes an ice storm like the one that hit Oregon in February 2021?

We’re anticipating a winter storm this week that will bring sleet and freezing rain instead of snow. That can cause a lot of problems, as the last ice storm in February of 2021 demonstrated. That said, there's no indication that this storm will be comparable to the last one.

This report brings up old memories for me. Back in the late 1960s, I was a teenager living East of Gresham. Freezing rain was fairly common and we learned to live with it. Our family always watched the national network evening news. A national reporter was in Portland for some reason and he filed a video report on the storm. His words were, "there are glaciers flowing down the streets of Portland!" That was the first time I realized you could not always trust the media. It was a lesson that was reinforced more and more often as I got older. Look up the "Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect."

If you loose power putting up a tent inside your house will keep you warmer at night if you happen to have a smaller tent that will fit inside the larger one even better . I'm good with 3 days no power But any longer starts to test my patience for sure .
