Ralph Roister Doister | Ralph Roister Doister by Nicholas Udall
Today's video is about the first English comedy "Ralph Roister Doister" by Nicholas Udall. "Ralph Royster Doister" was performed in 1552 by the school-boys. Ralph Roister Doister is based on Plautus's play "Miles Goriosus". The comedy was published in 1566. Ralph Roister Doister is divided into five acts and some of the characters are borrowed form the classic but the others are directly taken from the English life. The comedy deals with a one-sided affair of Ralph who falls in love with a widow Christian Custance (Constance). But he fails to win her heart.
Though this is a short video, it is effective and gives broad outline to students of English literature.
