It's a happy thing to learn something, like knitting, which can keep your hands and mind occupied. I am a long-time Bead worker, and Native American, and do know that each knot, or each bead helps you to recall the feelings you had at that moment, and can help you remember your life as a story, and I hope you continue making, and recalling through this medium, it will make you a better story-teller, and a better person. I wish I could talk to you about how this skill is related to what Lance does, because I am a historian, as well, and we have to learn to build things in the same way, of many parts, of many small memories, comes the story of a life, and it is through stories we care for each other.

I haven't had a homemade hat since my grandmother passed. When we were kids we'd get a new hat and matching mittens and scarf every year for Christmas
