I used the Shluter Ditra uncoupling mat on my Old Victorian House entryway floor. Watched Youtube to learn how to install. Loved seeing this video because it confirms I did it correctly! Just a homeowner working alone on projects during COVID. I hate tiling but I'm so glad I took this extra step. Very satisfying to be a novice taking on these skills.

When I build my new home, it will be handicapped accessible including the shower, with a wide bench, hand held shower as well as wall mounted shower. I learned how to do so on THIS OLD HOUSE! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!,

Now are there building codes that say showers have to be water proofed? I have a friend who put up cement board, then just tiled over that on a house that he was selling.

Thousands of bathrooms were tiled over plaster 50-70yrs ago and never had issues and are still functioning perfectly. I've personally done over 40 tub and shower walls with green board and tile and no problems whatsoever. This seems to be a big, expensive but cheap, PIA.

Most contractors I've met would not be intimidated by folding waterproofing paper into a corner. They'll be long gone before the homeowner has any mold issues.

Personally I think it's a bust having to order and wait 4-6 weeks for the heating elements to arrive. A system that can be cut and connected by the installer would be far superior!
