I'm a plumber, never been laid off or had trouble finding work...of course I'm not wealthy, but I'm comfortable and enjoy my work

The economy is not as strong as some would have us believe.

I’m really sorry to hear that. The tech industry has been brutal lately with all the layoffs.

Sorry to hear that, last year few of my friends got laid off from big Tech companies, and they told me they got it wrong, they were too loyal to these companies and sucked in by telling them they are a big family, they got free lunch each day, free gym, no work-life balance etc. then boom! all of a sudden their service is no longer needed. That's the sad reality of working for Tech companies. Never be too loyal to any company, only to yourself, you are replaceable at work but not at home. All the best in your new journey.

Hey, my husband was out of work from the tech industry for almost six months this year and he finally found a job for much less pay because he was getting desperate. A little advice here, it's taking longer to get a job for a lot of people right now so I would advise not to spend your savings on an expensive trip, buying anything big, just keep saving because as things are uncertain, you may need that money to help you pay your rent and bills for a longer time than usual. Unless you come from a rich family, then okay but I would still save your cash as much as possible. There's tons of videos out there just like this one where people have been laid off for months and months now. Best of luck out there to everyone searching.

Based on my 35 years of job experience in the tech industry, it's NOT what you know or who you know. It is all about "who knows you".

When you’re unemployed, getting $1, 800 in unemployment a month, going on a solo trip to Europe might be mentally good for you but it’s the most financially irresponsible thing you can do right now. Choosing a cheaper solo trip like Southeast Asia would’ve been more smarter. We’re about to hit a depression (we’re already in a recession) and you’ll regret spending that kind of money after.

Tech created AI and now tech is out of a job.

Go figure.

You'll have work related PTSD for the rest of your life. Im retired, my first. Layoff came at about 33 years old my next layoff at about 40 in between I had several contract and short term and week to week assignments. Trust me things will get better but they will never be the same again. You will never feel fully secure in your job or life again. It sucks but accept it. It is what it is!

Lots of layoffs are happening. People are being lied to. God help this country.

I got laid off from an ed tech company that went bankrupt this year I’m in cybersecurity and looking for work is challenging. I’ve had a few interviews but I’ve sent out almost 1700 job applications since February of this year. Things will get better just let go and let God!

She is not technical -- she only "worked" for a social media company while sipping latte, chatting with other gfs.

TL:DR - Electrical Engineer in Silicon Valley here (BSEE Cal Poly SLO, MSEE SCU) with nearly 28 years of industry experience now. In 2015 I became a full time consultant and have never looked back (Straight RF, LLC). Oddly, not having a regular job has been more stable for me than having a corporate job. Just say no to corporate life.

Hey Tiff, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm one of the people who watched your UX research videos a lot, and they truly helped me transition from industrial design to UX. I've been working as a UX researcher for more than a year now, thanks to your videos.

The market in South Africa is not that bad. It's just that there are not many stand-alone UX Research roles; companies tend to use Designers to do standard research.

But I have been unemployed before (during the pandemic) and I am thriving today, don't know if you believe in GOD but He sure will make a way for you 🙏🏽

Times like this I’m glad I became a mailman for a living.
Nothing runs without the mail.
I can only deliver good news and bad news.

In the 1960's, my grandmother bought a home in Los Angeles and paid it off in 11 years working a single first shift 7 hour non-management job at McDonald's. That house is worth $1.1 million today. I treat the fact that you can't do that with a single job at McDonald's today (and even higher-skilled jobs) as a sign that the US and its dollar has been weakened to the point that it no longer represents an economy of workers. It is an economy of investors. How wealth is generated has changed, but the education system does not teach nor reflect that.

No matter what anyone tells you, there is nothing wrong with you, your skills, or the the industry(ies) from where you worked. I have only seen this video you made, but I can tell you're a wonderful human being, so I wanted to send some encouragement. Don't let anything or anyone invalidate you and how hard you worked. I think that the only thing you need to do is spend more time investing into yourself and less time investing into others in an economy that is increasingly unable or unwilling to appreciate workers like you.

I just got laid off 2 weeks ago after working 8 years - 4 years remote since 2020.
I got a severance package and cashed out my maannny hours of PTO plus unemployment benefits. I felt down - questioning what the hell now? I decided to take a break and do a lot of decluttering, selling online etc. it’s a bummer to lose that routine/structure but things will get better in time. Best regards to you 😊

Hi Tiffany, the job market is definitely bad right now even for people who aren't in tech. Low paying jobs with lots of competition. I believe we have been in a recession and headed into a depression. Alot of workplaces are also outsourcing ALL types of work or paying cheap money to foreigners here in the USA
