I think It's a comfort cuz BSd character's trauma's majority of the time is extreme so if we're all feeling 'traumatised' and in need to comfort, it's reassuring to see that they're havinga worst time than us (that actually sounds so bad being said out loud that you find comfort in seeing others suffer just to feel better about yourself but they're fictional characters so...)
