D600 DX APS-C Mode 1/400th Manual Flash Sync Hack

Time for an experiment! It's common sense, but it is cool that you can sync up to 1/400th of a second in DX mode on the D600 (D800 might be a bit better?). My RF flash triggers can't keep up with that sync speed, but do manage a slightly faster speed of 1/250th. I'm regretting selling my Cactus V5 units! Sure, you can crop the FX frame, but you will miss out on the simplicity of the DX mode where it adds a frame to the viewfinder and automatically crops the resulting photo.

I sold off all of my Pentax equipment to fund the switch. I now have the D600, D7000, and a number of lenses. Both companies have positives and negatives, but I am happy with these new tools. I do feel that I have a lot more versatility with the new kit.

It is neat considering the camera can sync as an APS-C faster than anything else out there. Wish I didn't sell my Cactus V5 trigger units that are spec. at 1/1000th shutter speed. I would pick up another set, but they are not cheap (about double the price of the Yongnuo units).

yeah, I have the Yongnuo Units also. I was not sure about the lag, but I can see it from your test there is some. Maybe a wired solution would work better.

Pentax should have a full frame camera soon, but its been soon for a while. D600 should be a great camera, but check out nikon's website for refurb D800's with full warranty for only $100 more.

This mean that, if you use e.g. the Yongnuo 622s(support of HSS)triggers with a D600/610, you can use higher speeds?Have I got that right?

To hide black bare you need more power in your flash. More power give longer flash
