I still believe Empoleon and Serperior are the choices for the main two, with Empoleon's inspiration going more into the General aspect of Napoleon, not overlapping too much with Serperior, but the Fire starter is the hardest one to figure out

I think Turtwig has a shot, for one simple reason: The Paris Catacombs. Hear me out. Torterra's whole schtick is that it's based on the myth of the world turtle, so what if a variant of Torterra was based on the Paris Catacombs? The Paris Catacombs span an insane amount of Paris's underground, with Paris built on top of it and expanded over time. A Grass/Ghost or Grass/Rock type Torterra that uses old catacombs/tombs as its shell would not only fit Kalos, but also fit into the "monster" category of starter possibilities.

I think they'll go similar to Legends Arceus Gen 2/5/7 so in that case Feraligatr /Serperior / Incineroar, would make sense to me

11:04 You imply that Charmander can't have any strong connection to France but: both its English and French names (Salameche) reference the Salamander. While we know it as an amphibian, in the Middle Ages there is also a mythological fiery creature called the Salamander which does... look like a salamander, since some species were thought to have some sort of connection with fire and resist it. In fact this is why the Charmander line exists and is a fire type, as it is based on the mythological creature.

Francis the First ("François Premier" (written "1er")) is a well known French king that ruled during the Renaissance, specifically in the 16th century. He had a pretty big impact on France, establishing an alliance with the Turks, participating in wars in Italy, was very fond of Leonardo da Vinci and known for building and refurbishing some of the country's most beautiful castles such as the Chateau de Chambord or Chateau d'Amboise (this was where Leonardo da Vinci actually lived during his time in France under Francis 1st's recognition, at the Clos Lucé). One of Francis the first's most recognizable symbol was... the Salamander! It was another nobility symbol not exclusive to him however many heraldric symbols with a crowned salamander directly refer to the king. In Chambord's Castle, you can find the Salamander etched in the chimneys. These castles are located in what is called the Loire Valley, following the Loire River, and many of them are only about 1 or 2 hour drives from Paris. Paris was the capital of the kingdom but the kings loved to spend time in the properties they had in either Orléans or the Loire Valley, but Paris still retained its royal importance since this is where the King still has its main governing functions until Louis XIV rebuilt Versailles and moved there (before the kings used to exert their power from the Louvre Castle, now the museum, and even before then it used to be from "La Conciergerie", once a palace).

So Charmander definitely has some very French connections. The only reason it's definitely not gonna be a PLZA is what you said: they already were available as secondary starters in X and Y. Having a mega already prevents it from being a PLZA starter, alongside the other Gen 1 and Gen 3 starters, if Gamefreak wants to give the PLZA starters new megas. Though gamefreak also loves breaking their own rules (or rather rules made up by fans lol).

Serperior, Cinderace, and Feraligatr would be a really good starter trio. Especially since all 3 of them are monotype, and if they get Megas then they could each gain a new type through those. Serperior could become part Dragon, Cinderace could become part Electric, and Feraligatr could become part Dark.
(I’d love to have Feraligatr be part Dragon, but Dark also makes sense for it, and I don’t think there’s any other type that makes sense for Serperior)

Something else to keep in mind is that in Pokemon Z-A, we'll likely have access to all of the mega evolutions at one point or another. Meaning starters with mega evolutions feel kinda unlikely to be the starters. Although a Mega Kalonian Version of Blazekin VS a Mega Blazekin does sound kinda cool. With that said, it makes me think Serperior, Feraligator, and Incenaroar

When Legends Arceus had yet to show its starters, TCG ended up leaking them ahead of time, intentionally or not. TCG has done the same thing recently with three specific starters. You're so close with some of your final predictions. I won't spoil it in this post in case you want to look for yourself.

A mon with a mega getting a regional form would be redundant since gamefreak will defitely include them in their regular forms somehow in order to make the mega available.

For the grass starter, I could easily see sprignaittio but if they swerve us with snivy I'm not surprised

Another note for Surperior being the grass starter is that in an interview, Ken Sugimori, the designer for the snivy line also based her off of Lady Oscar from The Rose of Versailes(prob spelt that wrong), Who was a france guard in her manga, so she has a another point of contention for being the starter, granted just because she was based on a French character dosent mean its confirmed but since the creator said she was based on it, and her being royalty i personally believe its almost guaranteed to be her

I would love to see Fennekin (Fire/Dark), Popplio (Water/Ghost), and Chikorita (Grass/Fairy). Fennekin's inclusion would break from the Arceus pattern of 2/5/7, but considering the gen 5 reflected the region of Sinnoh, I think using one Kalos (6) pokemon instead would fit Z-A better.
Fennekin already fits the region, but I'd love it if the concept was tweaked for the later evols to use the voirloup as a concept.

Popplio could reference the Phantom of the Opera, The Unknown of the Seine, and Melusine.
Chikorita would be able to reference perfumes with it's signature dex entry reflecting the sweet aroma it gives off. It could also reference Marie Antoinette and the royal/rococo type of style with it's neck and head flourishes. I think the use of a fairy secondary typing would be reflect the theme well!
Also interesting to note that Arceus' starter final evols were very similar to the design of the trainers of their added secondary type in their respective generation. Meaning that Fennekin could incorporate some design aspects of Emma and Popplio with Acerola. Chikorita as a Fairy type would be free from this though as there were no fairy types in gen 2.

For my own personal guess I’m gonna say that we’re going to get a Johto starter, a Unova one, and a Galar one. So Totodile, Snivy, and Scorbunny. Scorbunny is popular so it would make sense. Snivy would work because Serperior fits with Kalos on an aesthetic and themeatic level. And Totodile is cute… I want it because it’s cute lol.

A Sinnoh one seems very unlikely to me given that they got focus in BDSP, and were wild Pokémon in PLA.

Additionally, since the Kanto and Hoenn starters all have mega evolutions I’m gonna assume they’re all going to be obtainable in Z-A, just not as starters. Probably in the post-game? But we’ll have to see.
