I know it is hard to see positives right now at Manchester United. We're a mid table club with a fractured fanbase thanks to INEOS' rough 1st year, cuts everywhere and a struggling Ruben Amorim.

But I seriously think there is one thing that really does change everything. Its easier said than done but let me explain what I mean and I do truly believe this.

For me, getting the recruitment right is the main way we're going to properly shift momentum at this club. It is everything. Get it right 2 summers in a row and you start building a squad that can genuinely compete. We have been crap for so many years now and if Vivell can change that, it really does change everything.

Vivel and his recruitment team don’t need to reinvent the wheel or unearth hidden talents. In modern football, most players are already well-known—even to fans. The real challenge is distinguishing between hype and genuine quality when making decisions.

For instance, United could have spent £50M on Raphinha but instead invested £85M in Antony. They had the opportunity to sign Haaland for £20M but ended up overpaying for a lesser player like Højlund. While the recruitment team will undoubtedly find some hidden gems, the key is ensuring the right profiles are signed.

Take the midfield, for example—Douglas Luiz and Sandro Tonali would significantly elevate the team’s quality. However, stats from the past two seasons indicate that German midfielder Rocco Reitz has outperformed both, yet he would cost less than half their price. Similarly, while many fans want Atalanta’s Ederson at United, data comparisons suggest that Malik Tillman from PSV is superior in every aspect.

Matheus Cunha is a player many would love to see at Old Trafford, but Evan Guessand from Nice offers a similar style, comparable goal and assist contributions, is younger, and would come at a lower price. In goal, Onana is one of the team’s weak links, yet Vanja Milinković-Savić from Torino has consistently proven to be a better keeper—even during Onana’s time at Inter.

Regarding the wing-back role, Wesley from Flamengo appears to be a stronger option than Quenda, despite the excitement around him due to his connection with Amorim. If Quenda is considered for a winger role instead, Johan Bakayoko from PSV presents a better fit with superior stats. Notably, both Wesley and Bakayoko—whose contract runs until 2026—would cost less than signing Quenda.

The biggest challenge isn’t finding players but selecting the best options within a budget. With a likely budget of around £200M, the goal should be to secure 8-10 quality signings rather than overspending on just three or four.

In Person of Patrick Dorgu we have gotten Evra's replacement after many years without a player like him that's Agile, strong, tick all boxes and score goal just needs to work on his crosses. I love Patrick Dorgu

United need to remember the old way with players who were world beaters and World Cup winners like Veron, Forlan, and Barthez who came into the squad, didn't quite fit in England or with the way SAF wanted them to play, or with the squad chemistry and were immediately moved on while they still had value and couldn't cause rot in the dressing room. I think this should have been done years ago with Shaw and should be on the radar right now with a few players. It also is another way you build the culture of no player being bigger than the club.

I really believe a huge problem for the team is the GK. Its not easy to find, but we need a new Edwin. De Gea, as great as he was, was mainly a shot stopper, maybe the best ever, but we need a calm strong defense organiser. I think the players are nervous with Onana. Fix that and itd be a big start

We should be scouting schjedrup from benfica. At 20 he is not as quick as garnacho but definitely comes off as more creative. Could be a rotation option with garnacho or even a starter. He currently plays in a more traditional winger role but given his profile i am pretty sure he will fit in the system

If every player we get in is like Patrick Dorgu, who can come in and make an actual difference in our performance, then we will be moving in the right direction. and I'm of the opinion that younger, less injury prone players are what we should be looking at.

Amorim will always have the last word on who United buys. Doesn’t matter what “they” want. If Amorim doesn’t think it fits the system, then forget it, United isn’t signing that player or any other player. Patrick is an example of this
