Winter ride out on XSR125 - mid February 2024

A momentary pause in the incessant rain with a mild breeze to drive the roads I thought this is the day to have my first ride out since Rod's Autumn Leaves run on 22nd November - thats three months!
Smugly sitting on the bike expecting it to start I was forced to bump start it with a dead battery. And it decided it didn't like the 3 month old fuel either.....is this a "precious" little bike or what?
Decided to drive 30 miles or so with the carburation clearly not right, hesitating under load, but after filling the tank with fresh fuel, those problems disappeared.
The battery is hopefully holding its charge and the engine light thankfully cleared on reset so all bodes well for a year of fun !
Great little bike the XSR125 - real fun bike !

I decided to use E5 over the winter on all my three bikes along with regular use of the Optimate battery tender. Nice to see you out and about again Rob, the wife and I have managed to ride these past couple of days, wonderful.👍

Thanks for sharing the the ride out, something I need to do with mine also. Been resting since November outside under a cheap cover, tested battery last weekend, still good but it’s the starting that she doesn’t like when cold. You’ve given me food for thought thanks. Look forward to this years offerings that you post. Ride safe.

Good to see and hear you out on the bike again Rob. Must find time soon to get mine out again. Glad that was an easy fix on your bike.

It’s good to see a larger gentleman like myself on a 125. I live in caithness in wick on the north coast 500 route and love watching your videos. Keep up the good work sir I look forward to seeing more in the future 👌

Good to see you out there, Rob; most bikes don't like months of idleness... I was suprised to see the daffodils (or jonquils?) on the roadside at 8:43 - 8:54. They too are out a bit early, like the blackthorn you mentioned.

I used to use an Opti Mate on my old Vulcan when she was in the garage and used the same battery for years

I'm jealous, had a day off today and wanted to get out on bike but weather was terrible.

I miss that about the lightweight motorbikes of my youth. The ability to run alongside and bump start it. Or physically lift the thing up in a tight spot. Handy for maintenance too, no need for fancy jacks and trolleys, a bit of rope or spare pair of hands will do.

I was going to say Rob that the flat battery issue will trigger the EML, 9 times out of 10, they will reset themselves without further issue. I never use E10 fuel, its rubbish. For the extra it costs with E5 and the high mpg that our bikes deliver its not a consideration for me, E5 is a far better combustible fuel. Good to see you back out on the bike.👍🙂

Hi Rob, you had the same battery problem as I had on the BMW, changed the battery, what a job that is on the BMW, little or no clearance to remove and refit.
Weather here on the West Coast of Scotland has been too cold and too wet interspersed with frost, so the bike has not had a run out, hope to have one soon.
Nice to see you out and about on the SR, hope you and the Mrs enjoyed your lunch, All the Best.

I use stabilizer in the fuel and a battery tender on the bikes in the off season. Anyways good to see you out on the bike again.

Nice ride out, bike seems to go very well when it has some new fuel in it. Went out on my bike the other week. Same as you the first time since October. Fortunately no fuel or battery issues.

I assume you are not in the uk - yes I notice they do a different version in far east - not sure if the parts are available here. Thinking of taking the bike to the French alps in 2025
