The other hack is to twang the strap and say "That's not going anywhere". If you don't do that, you risk it going somewhere.

"If this shit falls off, the whole trailer is going with it" is my preferred reassurance statement.

Every man after securing a load says "it's not going anywhere", love it.

It's the law that once something is strapped down you must say "It's not going anywhere".

"Not going anywhere.."
Says the guy with a mattress on the roof of his 97'Corrolla.

Never fails.

That prevents the ratchet from locking . Simply fold the tail and put it between what your strapping down and the strap before you finish tightening.

Been doing for a while, but I don't think I've ever shared this with anyone. I think it's great when people share the various tricks they've accumulated over their careers. Thank you!

Much faster to release afterward than having to untie all the loops and knot I'd previously been using.

"Every time you cut it in half it gets a lot smaller" thanks man that's all I needed

I heard him say "hey vato" in the begining. I had to replay it. Lol

You still risk that coming loose on the road. Best method I've found is to roll it up, then pull a loop from the inside of the roll, pull it over the entire strap roll, and it is locked tight and can't come loose, it can only tighten.

Learned that trick a long time ago from an old crusty trucker.... Works well and is a great tip to share!!!! I will say the guitar string tightness is

I've been cutting the excess off with scissors. Been needing to buy straps every trip, this is really useful

Usually I’d just wrap it around a few times; thanks for saving me about 40+ years of future frustration 🍻

"Everytime you half it, it gets a lot smaller"

How much smaller?

"About half the size...every time"

As a professional flatbed driver I enjoy seeing the creative ways people have come up with to dealing with this problem. My favorite is throwing caution to the wind and just let it fly lmao

I just was thinking to myself a few hours ago that I wish I new a better way to tie down the tail….impeccable timing Kyle. And as always top notch!

I’ve folded it that and put it under the strap before I tighten it. It only works when the load is wide enough. You pinch the extra strap between the load and the strap

Did yall know that when you half it, it gets smaller? I didn't before today. Good info, very informative.

The better way so that you don’t have to keep redoing it each load/unload is to tie the extra higher up on the strap. You can just slide the slack up and down as needed, for months if hauling the same equipment repeatedly. Saves hours added up.
