I thought Rainbow Islands was BB2. And I've just found out there are a many Bubble Bobble games like this one. Crazy discovery for 2023. Thanks for a sincere, balanced review of what is an old game.

I didn't know Bubble Bobble (Part) 2 even existed until, like, two years ago when I got a multicart for my Retron. If I'd have known about it back in the day, I would've been all over it, but I legitimately don't remember it ever getting coverage in Nintendo Power or hearing guys at Funcoland talk about it or whatever at the time. I guess it was a pretty late release so people were definitely onboard the 16-bit machines (and you could TOTALLY argue that Taito should've just made a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and SNES Bubble Bobble instead), but still... I don't remember ANYONE talking about this back in '93!

At any rate, I really like it too - it's more Bubble Bobble, but it's got, like, Kirby-caliber sprite art. What's not to love!? You're right about the lack of memorable music though. I do enjoy seeing you shine a light on it - I genuinely think not enough even know this exists. More people should talk about it!

It just isn't Bubble Bobble without that classic song. They at least needed to match that energy.

But then also still sticking to the same formula, with just single screen arenas, when this came out at the end of the NES life cycle, is inexcusable.

There's quite a few Bubble Bobble 2 games. Arcade Bubble Bobble 2, Gameboy Bubble Bobble 2, and Nes. All 3 are different but the nes is my favorite. Hard though, and no 2-player co-op TwT but I love.

For me, it’s yes, because I never played the original one😂, only it’s sequel…Yes, two sequel, Rainbow Islands and Bubble Bobble Part 2, I’ve played them in childhood, but original one I just see it on Internet and emulator.

Is it as good as the original? No, but it is still enjoyable. A friend got me a copy for under $100, but that was many, many years ago, haven't played it as much as I should be playing it.

Co-Op, Password, more levels.
Tho Part 2 looks and sounds amazing but loses a lot of charm with awkward jumps/control smaller bubbles easier to get stuck. It is good, the first ones better.
