Went to El Paradon in 2013. It was quiet and quaint, still dream of that place. Got some solid swell, saw some sea turtles laying eggs, and best black beans I have ever had. Thanks for bringing back the memories

Very nice video bro. I spent 40 days in Siargao in 2022. It is not that cheap. Supermarkets and accomodations are not cheap. I used to buy fish and fruits at the local market. Some waves you need a boat to get there.
Anyway it was an incredible time, great surf almost everyday. Great weather. Nice people. Loved it.

Great vid! I LOVE the idea of a town where theres nothing to do besides surf and chill, it keeps all the noise and crowds away

Bro, should've mentioned Itauna, Brazil. 250-300 surf days/year, still mellow vibe. Nice food, water temp, night life, cheap.

I used to stay in Midigama/ Sri Lanka for 3 dollars a night 11 years ago. Add 5 dollars a day for great food. 240 dollars for a month, food and room included. Prices these days have escalated.

I travel quite a bit for surf but also for general tourism and hiking. Just wanted to add that Japan is one of the least expensive 1st world higher end countries I’ve ever experienced. And I’m sure there’s plenty of surf to chase. If the waves aren’t great the cultural immersion is incredible. Probably the biggest pattern disruption one could experience. Cheers

Siargao is a really great place. I have only been there once but I had an absolute blast. Cloud 9 is not an easy wave but there are many options in the area with the two twin waves Stimpy's (left) and Rock Island (right) being my favorites. It looks like wind could be an issue though as storms have become frequent even outside the traditional stormy season.

Surfed and stayed at Anchor Point early 80s.Taghazout was a rough town back then with absolutely no tourism.Anchor point was wild wild west as well. Also surfed Aglou south of Agadir.

Wow what a cool video, so insightful! I've been staying in Siargao for 2 weeks and it's definitely more on the pricy side, hostels are pretty fancy but i guess you could some more affordable b&bs. cloud 9 is veeeery crowded, 'ocean 9' is amazing and more hidden, been surfing there with only 3 others it was great!

Dan I've been watching your videos for awhile now! Many thanks for them! They are packed with what seems to be first hand information. Which is rare online. Very envious of the places you've surfed and seen. I think your viewers want the Dan Harmon Doc. Like where you grew up, what got you into surfing, how long have you been surfing, mainly how do earn income/afford to continue what seems to be an endless vacation, a ten year time line would be epic too. Where you started this insane trip and where you are now. Maybe some favorite spots along they way/cool people you have met. It seems like you really enjoy Indonesia.

Thanks for the good summary. I have been to a number of the places you listed, so have a good comparison when I say that J-bay could easily make it on the. Plenty of budget accommodation, especially during shoulder season and in the backpackers (South Africa backpacker culture is second to none) and cheap food can be found. It may be a little more costly if eating out all the time, but if one is prepared to cook it can be done on a tight budget.

Lombok can be less than 10$ a day to sleep and eat if you have a board and a bike (5/10$) you can surf alone every day and fish or snorkel ecc, if you are respectfull the locals especially small villages hidden in the jungle will be sooo hospitable, but don't go around late at night in crowdy towns with jewelry and so on
