His music is on another level. Between singing and the horns of the band it’s the greatest music ever made.

He could sing songs over and over and each rendition sounded as fresh as the first.

On the chance anyone didn't know, this was a Nelson Riddle arrangement. Riddle shortened the orchestral bridge from the Strangers album (the only song on that album not arranged by Riddle was the hit single, done by Ernie Freeeman).

👍He sang this at least 50 years. Great song with the best possible band.

Frank knocked Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass off The Billboard hottest Album charts in 1966 with Strangers In The Night.

An interesting side note to this performance is that the sound engineer responsible for recording what was to expected be Sinatra's farewell performance accidentally removed (kicked?) the cord/feed coming from Sinatra's microphone from his audio soundboard. You can hear the change in the audio source at the 1:20 mark where the sound ceases to come from Sinatra's microphone. After that point the audio is from the external auditorium speakers. The audio engineer didn't realize what had happened until midway through the next song (I've Got You Under My Skin). It is likely for this reason that this performance was never released until many years later on the ALL OR NOTHING AT ALL deluxe four disc package where you can find the DVD of this sensational June 13, 1971 "Retirement Concert".

Just listened to the 1939 version and then this one (prompted by the book, "This Is What It Sounds Like, " by Susan Rogers, who compared the two versions as examples of Sinatra's evolvement as a melody creator, not just a crooner). I like the later performance: swagger but still with soul, compared to the eager-to-please phrasings of the young Sinatra.

There will never, never be another like Sinatra. Connick Jnr, Bublé, Iglesias are all pale imitations .
