Garden Room Workshop: Part 3. Design

Part 3 of a video series about how to self-build a timber-framed garden room office (aka tiny house)/wood workshop in the UK.
This video covers my design decisions and their impact on planning permission and building regs discussed in Part 2.

The purpose of this video series is to provide all the information required for viewers to build their own garden room rather than just a montage of the building work. It took me months of research to learn everything in these videos so I hope to save people time and money.
The videos are a mix of theory and footage of the build including all the mistakes I made along the way. I am not a builder or tradesman, just a keen DIY-er with some basic tools. Everyone can do this!
In the longer term, I hope to turn this channel into a community for garden room self-builders and to eventually evolve into a woodworking projects channel- the real purpose of my garden room!

Big thanks to all those who have subscribed and waited patiently for the next video. I purposely put in some shots of the building at a future stage to keep you interested. Future videos will come more quickly now as it's easier to create videos of footage rather than on the theory behind what I decided.

Saved me tons of research time, thanks a lot bud! Doing a build similar with a dual pitched roof with little to no experience and that research is taking all my time! Will definitely like to contribute to your site when I'm starting it. I'm trying to do a cathederal style roof (no joists), might have bit off more than I can chew! Great videos. Thinking of doing the same after being quoted an absolute extortionate amount to build a garden gym by a garden room company.

How did you design the floor structure and determine the timber sizing? I need it to be heavy duty to take the load of the gym equipment.

Hi Ali. I've built a log cabin on a large concrete slab I already had. The bearers sit straight on thr slab.

Appreciate this isn't the best design but now I want to pave around it. I'm concerned the paving slabs will stop the air flow under the cabin. Any ideas please?
