The thing about the Caro Kann is it’s been studied probably more than any opening because Kasparov vs Deep Blue. It was the game where computers became better than humans.

I read that beginners should avoid Caro Kann because they need to focus on attacking unbalanced structuees and learning to use open lines. Most GMs started out with attacking styles and after 2000 Elo they switch to a more positional structure. Bent Larsen one said "If you play the Caro Kann if you are young what will you play when you are old?"

I mean i wouldn't say don't play the Caro Kann. Your opponent didn't play good enough theory first of all, and played even worse out of theory. If you know what you're doing, you will not get battered like this.
