Further Viewing 🎥

PLEASE NOTE: For the sake of timing, I have removed any books purchased for my Pulitzer Project, books that were gifted to me, library builders (cases where I purchased a book to complete an author collection, etc.), and books I had already read and purchased to have a copy in my library. I am only including books that I purchased for myself with the intention (or hope) of reading it sometime soon.

Seven Houses: A Memoir of Time and Places, Josephine Johnson

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Maggie-Now, by Betty Smith

Yay, you finally got to The Sleeping Car Porter. I loved that book so much.

"My guiding principle is based on nothing" lol. Strange isn't it, we want what we want when we want it, but then other things come along that we want also, then there are just so many that get left behind. I have a feeling that every reader has this issue.

“French flaps” sounds like something you would request in a bordello but I love French flaps.😁

I just started This is Happiness and I'm enjoying its unhurried pace right now. I loved The Sleeping Car Porter.

“The Stone Angel” by Margaret Laurence was part of my high school Canadian Literature course curriculum. If it could hold the interest of teenage me, that says it’s good. I wouldn’t prioritize it for January but I wouldn’t unhaul it either.

I hear you on _Guapa._ That’s exactly the reason I try to remind myself there’s no rush. If you were to purchase it today, you can probably find a good copy cheaply. On the other hand, I also understand wanting to have something on hand. At least it has a chance then.

I just read Lolly Willowes recently and really enjoyed it. The writing is great and the story, while it seems a bit whimsical on the surface, has depth to it. I like stories about women doing what they want in spite of social scrutiny. You have a lovely edition of the book ☺

Shafak has recently become a favourite author of mine. I only got around to reading Ten Minutes and 38 Seconds in this Strange World this year. I loved it and immediately bought her new book There Are Rivers In the Sky and it was even better. I recommend both when you have the chance!

Greg, i love that you try and keep yourself accountable for the money you're spending on purchasing books ( lol, i need to do the same with shoes!)... but i think in the vain of accountability, then if you spend money on a book but then eventually end up listening to it, shouldn't you count those as a miss too? Just an observation....
But thx for doing these. It's a great reminder to all of us to hold ourselves accountable to our spending habits😂

Hey or as they say in Swedish Hej 😃 I felt similarly about The 1619 Project but only bought the audio version. I have to pick it back up again. I had to consume it in small doses as it is a really tough read at times. Such important history to be told. In addition to the main narrator there are a few others that lend their voices to the different sections of the book. Perhaps a good time to listen would be Black History Month broken down into daily segments. Continue to enjoy these book haul revisit videos. Recently picked up Lolly Willowes for similar reasons. I would definitely get to A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, a book that has stayed in my mind all the years since I read it. Thanks Greg for a peaceful place to forget about the world chaos for a small part of my day. You are appreciated.

2025 has to be the year for Guapa, maybe I’ll re-read it as well ☺️

It’s been a while since I read The Moor’s Account by Laila Lalami, but I did love it. I should read Stone Angel one of these days.
