Deepfakes are becoming increasingly more common and easy to create. The line between deepfake and face-swap technology has been blurred, allowing for simultaneous use of each techniques during live performances. This opens the door to real-time deepfakes and a new era of synthetic media.

Check out @CtrlShiftFace and the incredible deepfake content they produce.

To Avoid Deepfake Manipulation Meet People In Real Life.

I have a hard time believing Metaphysic is doing their AGT performances in real time. I think it's pre-recorded and then the guy on stage dances/sings in a choreographed manner to make it appear synchronous with the Deepfake. I know they have proprietary software, so who knows for sure, but Deepfacelab and Deepface Live can't even come close to that resolution in real time on any existing hardware (to include an RTX 4090).

Imagine how easy it will be to get someone arrested. You literally just have to hack their device now, record their voice and faces for a while to train the algorithm to copy their likeness. Then it’s just a matter of using their likeness to do whatever evil thing a person wants to use their victim for in order to punish them.

Honestly, if they’re going to make this technology a thing then they should at least make old school flip phones with no camera for those of us who don’t trust this tech.

Would be interesting to use this in video games. Imagine no NPC in a video game having the same face in the entire game.

8:27 That is smart. I saw this in a Steve Mould video. They use an algorithm to amplitude the subtle differences in the face's color and then plot them to see if they match a constant heart rate.

I didn't agree with the premise that deepfakes are too good to be distinguishable from real footage. Deepfakes still have quite a way to go before they're actually as good as real footage.

Some of these deepfakes are frighteningly realistic although I have noticed some tell tail signs. There's a Dirty Harry trailer with Arnold Schwarzenegger and I could tell the eye line was slightly off. But that was all I noticed. Also it helps that you knew all along that it was a deepfake and wasn't trying to deceive anyone.

I first saw Deepfake technology in the "Running Man" in 1987, that movie tried to warn people on what was growing on with fake society.

Have you found any good open source programs for this? I would like to look into this area further as I work with machine learning a little in tech.

Everyone freaking out about deepfakes but then was so happy to give their data to Lensa ?!

I was so annoyed with that trend bc I knew what was going on

I think despite the advancements, I personally don't find deepfakes very inspiring simply because direct imitation is kind of like placing a glass ceiling at the human level, which just seems kinda benign compared to the goals of other branches of AI where we are attempting (and often succeeding) to create superhuman agents/results. I think the deepfake news anchor is a decent use-case, but still seems rooted in the aspect of imitating a specific person, which is the part that's kinda bland to me, since you know - we already have 'people'. The nature of this technology does seem prone to misuse and deception but I agree some positives will most likely come from derivatives of it, and just like the video implied even the aspect of deception is potentially a kind of pseudo-positive if it demonstrates a tangible example against blindly trusting everything online 'at face value'. I mean, for all I know this entire channel was generated, but I think the average person isn't at all on guard for that kind of possibility - and that's not even mentioning the AI in private labs.

The good this technology can do, most definitely, does not justify it's existence. The bad will inevitably outweigh it.

Looking forward to AI generated movies with any actor - alive or dead.

But it's actually cool. Now we are able to make films with long dead people as actors. Give them second Life..

you know what's funny?
If anyone manages to create a detector for deepfakes.... that detector would be great for adversarial training, and the detector would be instantly defeated.

Will be great for memes, but will be used to do infinitely more harm. We should not be allowed to use programs to mimick or impersonate humans and human activity

that's the big question: what is real and whats is fake? because we cant trust anything and anyone, i rather believe in my self.

You posed the question can we detect a deepfake, then answered your own question with "The short answer is no".
Yet in almost every example you demonstrated in this video, although the results were realistic looking, you could absolutely tell for certain that they weren't real.

The problem with detection algorithms is that they can be used in adversarial training (GAN) against deepfake algorithms to make them even better. The deepfake algorithm can output different versions, and the one that isn't detected by the other is reinforced. Both of them get better and better super fast, while humans are left just as clueless as they are. It's an arms race...

is there any way to fake a tattoo, where i live there is a case of making a deepfake 18+ video with a tattoo, is it possible
