Thanks to The Outdoor Gear Review some big changes are taking place at Sierra Designs as some major improvements are being made to their products that are exclusively offered at Target.

I'm glad they pay attention to you. I am on a fixed income and a senior citizen. I love hiking and because of my age, I will save my money for a longer time in order to purchase a product that is safe in the outdoors. It's essential that it be a good product. Congratulations and well done, Luke! Honesty prevails over placating. That's how reviews should be done. I was once a devotee of Sierra Designs products and still own a sleeping bag and a backpack I bought 15, maybe 20 years ago when the quality of their affordable gear was excellent. As the QA diminished so did my enthusiasm. You have done a great service for the outdoor community. Long live TOGR!

I've always tried to buy the most durable and reliable gear I can afford, primarily for safety reasons but also because i can't afford to replace my gear as often as others do. My wife has encouraged me to buy quality outdoor gear for the same reasons. It's great that companies are trying to make gear for lower income families. Instead of lowering quality they should cut features, make the products more basic to reduce production costs.

Being on a fixed income and still wanting to go backpacking, as I did in my youth is rather difficult. I have for several years now been trying to get gear that I not only can afford, which is really hard, but also I know it will be safe to use. I remember what my friend once said in regards to buying gear....you can cry now or cry later, in other words, don't buy cheap gear. The problem now TOGR is like you said, there are so many companies out there and they all want your money. Are you really surprised at the quality or lack off with this stuff? I just want to thank you so much for doing this and looking out for poor souls like me.

Hey Luke. This is just one of many reasons why I appreciate what you do. Bringing attention to manufacturers that cater to my financial demographic. I can't afford hundreds of dollars for a tent, a sleeping bag, etc. It has hindered my ability to get out and enjoy this country and nature in my own backyard so to speak. I'm currently wearing a Sierra Designs TOV 600 down jacket I found at a thrift store. I paid $15 for it and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the jacket. I think people need to look at other options like thrift stores to find decent gear. Unfortunately being "inclusive" in the outdoor realm means sacrificing something to bring the price down. Unfortunately, the sacrifice is quality.

Again, I'm disabled but seeing you I wanted OUT! And I safely did it and agree it should be for everyone but you really have to watch what you invest in. I bought a small two man tent that couldn't even keep out morning dew points and the tent was soaked by morning. Please keep going .... I'm watching.

Hi Luke, 25+ years ago my wife and I bought a 2-person SD tent for backpacing in Calif. (sorry, I don't remember the model name - looks similiar to the Meteor of today.) One of the key selling points was the open mesh top. And yes, you could see the stars on a clear night in the Sierras. We still have it and pull it out only for short dry summer trips. Sets up easily. Ten years ago we took it on a trip to Sardinia, Italy. Worked great. We've had to do occasional seam repairs. However, now the integrity of the material in general is beginning to weaken. But, heh, 25+ years! So, yes, SD have made and can make quality products. I don't remember what we paid; not outrageous, but we paid for the quality. Never regretted it. Thanks for your reviews and sharing the company's response. I have to say I was disappointed with the results (not your review process! spot-on) of your test. I thought they had sold-out for quantity vs. quality. Let's see how they apply what they said.

I wish more companies respond to real reviews as Sierra did. As for myself, living in the only "fifth world" country in the world right now (argentina) not even those budget ones are affordable, so i had to design my own tent and i'm in the process of building it
